Kaine Reynolds wants nothing more than solitude. After an unthinkable tragedy destroys his family, he’s cut off all ties to his former life so he can battle his grief the only way he knows how.W
Alone.
So when Piper Campbell knocks on his door, rambling on about being his new neighbor, he slams the door in her face.
But Kaine’s gruff demeanor doesn’t scare her. She’s set on living in Montana and starting over after a terrible divorce. And she wouldn’t mind having a fling to chase away the pain of her husband’s betrayal. Her handsome, albeit rude, neighbor is the perfect candidate.
Yet what neither of them suspect is that their no-strings affair will result in the surprise of Piper’s lifetime—and Kaine’s worst fear.

SPOILER-FREE REVIEW:
I thoroughly enjoyed this sexy and down-to-earth romance!! An engaging and beautiful story with a very relatable heroine. If you love stories with Alpha heroes, you’ll love this one!! Highly recommend.
“I used to work with rock and roll turned up to eleven. That was before. Now, the only sounds I allowed in my shop were those from my power tools. I tolerated the forest’s noise but would close the overhead door if the wind blew too loudly in the trees or the birds chirped obnoxiously. I’d grown accustomed to quiet.”
Aahhhhh, a grumpy, sullen neighbor!! I love it. This book is part of the Lark Cove series but can be read as a complete standalone.
Piper has moved to the beautiful state of Montana to start over after her divorce. She purchased a run-down house that she is renovating and her neighbor turns out to be the very grim, very angry but very gorgeous Kaine.
The cover of this book is very telling and has SO much meaning after you read the book! Piper and Kaine hate each other at first but fall into a sex-only relationship very quickly. Piper is still reeling from her divorce and Kaine has vowed never to become attached to anyone ever again after a horrible tragedy. Their relationship is passionate, sweet and unfolds beautifully.
Kaine’s broken heart slowly heals with the help of Piper but they both make mistakes along the way. Will they both be able to put aside their past heartbreak and love again? I loved how the author mixed the heavy emotional theme with lots of sexy times and some very funny banter.
From here, only the corner of Kaine’s log cabin and its green tin roof were visible. But just that small glimpse made me smile because he was in there, hiding from me. “That was either the dumbest thing I’ve done in years or the smartest.” I touched my lips again. Smartest.
I am keeping this review spoiler-free because I think the book is much enjoyable if you go in knowing only the outline of the story. I really connected to this story and the characters. There was nothing forced or over-the-top and the family dynamics were perfectly written. And the chemistry between Kaine and Piper was just fantastic!
“Don’t worry.” Piper laughed. “You aren’t the reason I was crying.”
“I’m not?” She shook her head.
“No, those tears belonged to someone else. What happened between us earlier was the craziest thing I’ve done in a long, long time, but I’m not upset about it. I don’t regret it.”
“I don’t either.”
“Are you sure? Because the way you bolted out the door makes me think otherwise.”
Once again, Devney Perry makes me want to visit Montana with all its wild beauty! If you are looking for a fast-paced, engaging and sexy contemporary romance with a small-town feel, then you’ll love ‘Tragic’.
