Excerpt + Giveaway: BEFORE WE WERE STRANGERS by RENEE CARLINO

August 21, 2015

From the USA TODAY
bestselling author of Sweet Thing and Nowhere But Here comes a love story about
a Craigslist “missed connection” post that gives two people a second chance at
love fifteen years after they were separated in New York City.

To the Green-eyed Lovebird:
We met fifteen years ago, almost to the day, when I moved my
stuff into the NYU dorm room next to yours at Senior House.
You called us fast friends. I like to think it was more.
We lived on nothing but the excitement of finding ourselves
through music (you were obsessed with Jeff Buckley), photography (I couldn’t
stop taking pictures of you), hanging out in Washington Square Park, and all
the weird things we did to make money. I learned more about myself that year
than any other.
Yet, somehow, it all fell apart. We lost touch the summer
after graduation when I went to South America to work for National Geographic.
When I came back, you were gone. A part of me still wonders if I pushed you too
hard after the wedding…
I didn’t see you again until a month ago. It was a
Wednesday. You were rocking back on your heels, balancing on that thick yellow
line that runs along the subway platform, waiting for the F train. I didn’t
know it was you until it was too late, and then you were gone. Again. You said
my name; I saw it on your lips. I tried to will the train to stop, just so I
could say hello.
After seeing you, all of the youthful feelings and memories
came flooding back to me, and now I’ve spent the better part of a month
wondering what your life is like. I might be totally out of my mind, but would
you like to get a drink with me and catch up on the last decade and a half?

2. Five Days After I Saw You
MATT
I took the damn F train, an hour-long ride to Brooklyn
from Midtown and back every day, at lunch, hoping I would run into Grace again,
but I never did.
Things were bad at work. I had submitted a request to
go into the field three months earlier but had been denied. Now I had to watch
Elizabeth and Brad walk around in bliss as people congratulated them on the
baby and Brad’s promotion, which came right after the announcement.
Meanwhile, I was still rejecting any forward motion in
my life. I was a stagnant puddle of shit. I had volunteered to go back on
location to South America with a National
Geographic
film crew. New York just wasn’t the same anymore. It held no
magic for me. The Amazonian jungle, with all of its wonderful and exotic
diseases, seemed more appealing than taking orders from my ex-wife and her smug
husband. But my request hadn’t been approved or denied. It just sat in a pile of
other requests on Scott’s desk.
I pondered the current state of my life while I stared
at a blank wall in the office break room. Standing next to the water cooler,
holding a half-empty paper cone, I tallied the insubstantial years I had spent
with Elizabeth and wondered why. How had things gone so terribly wrong?
“What are you doin’, man?” Scott’s voice
came from the doorway.
I turned and smiled. “Just thinking.”
”You seem a little brighter.”
“Actually, I was thinking about how I ended up
thirtysix, divorced, and trapped in cubicle hell.”
He walked to the coffeepot and poured a mug full then
leaned against the counter. “You were a workaholic?” he offered.
“That’s not why Elizabeth was unfaithful. She
fell right into Brad’s skinny arms, and he works more than I do. Hell,
Elizabeth works more than I do.”
“Why are you dwelling on the past? Look at you. You’re
tall. You have hair. And it looks like”—he waved his hand around at my
stomach—”you might have abs?”
”You checking me out?”
”I’d kill for a head of hair like that.”
Scott was the kind of guy who was bald by twenty-two. He’s
been shaving it Mr. Clean-style since then.
“What do women call that thing?” He pointed
to the back of my head.
“A bun?”
“No, there’s, like, a sexier name for it. The
ladies love that shit.”
“They call it a man-bun.”
He studied me. “Jesus, you’re a free man, Matt.
Why aren’t you prowling the savannahs for new game? I can’t watch you mope
around like this. I thought you were over Elizabeth?”
I shut the break-room door. “I am. I was over
Elizabeth a long time ago. It’s hard for me even to remember being into her. I
got caught up in the fantasy of it, traveling with her, taking photos. Something
was always missing, though. Maybe I did work too much. I mean, that’s all we
talked about, that’s all we had in common. Now look where I am.”
“What about Subway Girl?”
“What about her?”
“I don’t know. I thought you were gonna try to
get in touch with her?”
“Yeah. Maybe. Easier said than done.”
“You just have to put yourself out there. Get on
social media.”
Will
I find Grace there?
I went back and forth between wanting to
do everything I could to find her and feeling like it was totally pointless.
She’d be with someone. She’d be someone’s wife. Someone better than me. I wanted
to get away from everything reminding me that I still had nothing.
“If you care so much, why haven’t you approved my
request?” I asked.
He scowled. I noticed how deep the line was between
his eyebrows and it occurred to me that Scott and I were the same age…and he
was getting old. “I don’t mean the actual savannahs, man. Running away
isn’t going to solve your problems.”
“Now you’re my shrink?”
“No, I’m your friend. Remember when you asked for
that desk job?”
I walked toward the door. “Just consider it.
Please, Scott.”
Right before I left the room he said, “You’re
chasing the wrong thing. It’s not gonna make you happy.”
He was right, and I could admit that to myself, but
not out loud. I thought if I could win an award again, get some recognition for
my work, it would fill the black hole eating away at me. But deep down, I knew
that wasn’t the solution.
After work, I sat on a bus bench just outside the National
Geographic building. I watched hordes of people trying to get home, racing down
the crowded sidewalks of Midtown. I wondered if I could judge how lonely a
person was based on how much of a hurry he or she was in. No one who has
someone waiting for him at home would sit on a bus bench after a ten-hour
workday and people-watch. I always carried an old Pentax camera from my college
days in my messenger bag, but I hadn’t used it in years.
I removed it from the case and starting clicking away
as people flooded in and out of the subway, as they waited for buses, as they
hailed cabs. I hoped that through the lens I would see her again, like I had
years before. Her vibrant spirit; the way she could color a black-and-white
photo with her magnetism alone. I had thought about Grace often over the years.
Something as simple as a smell, like sugared pancakes at night, or the sound of
a cello in Grand Central or Washington Square Park on a warm day, could
transport me right back to that year in college. The year I spent falling in
love with her.
It was hard for me to see the beauty in New York anymore.
Granted, much of the riffraff and grit was gone, at least in the East Village; it
was cleaner and greener now, but that palpable energy I had felt in college was
gone, too. For me, anyway.

Time passes, life goes on, places change, people change.
And still, I couldn’t get Grace off my mind after seeing her in the subway. Fifteen
years is too long to be holding on to a few heart-pounding moments from
college.

I live in the suburbs of Dallas where it’s true, the only thing bigger than an over active imagination, may be women’s hair!
Usually, I try for funny. Humor is a major part of my life – I love to laugh, and it seems to be the thing I do in most situations – regardless of the situation, but jokes are a tricky deal… I don’t want to offend anyone and jokes tend to offend. So instead I’m going to tell you about Kindle.
I tragically lost my sixteen year old daughter to a drunk driver. She had just been at home, it was early in the night and I heard the accident happen. I’ll never forget that moment. The sirens were immediate and something inside me just knew. I left my house, drove straight to the accident on nothing more than instinct. I got to be there when my little girl died – weirdly, I consider that a true gift from above. She didn’t have to be alone.
That time in my life was terrible. It’s everything you think it would be times about a billion. I love that kid. I loved being her mother and I loved watching her grow into this incredibly beautiful person, both inside and out. She was such a gift to me. To have it all ripped away so suddenly broke me.
Her name was Kindle. Honest to goodness – it was her name and she died a few weeks before Amazon released their brand new Kindle ereader. She had no idea it was coming out and she would have finally gotten her name on something! Try finding a ruler with the name Kindle on it.. It never happened.
Through the course of that crippling event I was lucky enough to begin to write with a dear friend in the fan fiction world of Facebook. She got me through those dark days with her unwavering support and friendship. There wasn’t a time she wasn’t there for me. Sometimes together and sometimes by myself, we built a world where Kindle lives and stands for peace, love and harmony. It’s its own kind of support group. I know without question I wouldn’t be here today without her.

He wanted to make sure she understood. He ran the tip of his nose down hers, and his lower lip nudged hers. “I intend to, but I mean, I don’t want us to end. I want you in my bed, my body inside yours, to give you so much pleasure you can’t form a coherent thought. But more, I just want you with me. Next to me. I want to take care of you, to protect you. Our Review:

Cathy:

5 stars!!

Jodi Ellen Malpas is a genius at making you feel sorry for her Alpha male even though he is so f*****d up, and knowing the heroine should RUN not walk the other way! I wanted Livy to stay and fight for Miller. And the author’s phrasing is absolutely epic. I fell in love with the characters all over again in this book and wanted more.

I adored One Night Denied. I felt that Ms. Malpas really tapped into Miller’s emotions and even though I believe that we really don’t know his whole story yet, I was okay with the parts of his past that the author revealed. I loved this book even more than the first one and I cannot wait for the third book.

Ellen:

4.5 stars!!

I absolutely fell in love with Miller Hart all over again. This book begins right after Book 1 so there will be no spoilers here. The passion and the intensity that Miller feels for Livy were the best parts of the book for me. My heart broke for him in this book, and I was praying that Livy would get beyond her own painful past and let Miller love her. This is a man truly and deeply in love and he would let nothing and no one stand in his way. That is one of the many things that I love about the author’s tortured heroes.

“I’m madly fascinated by you, Olivia Taylor. You fill my dark world with light and my hollow heart with feelings. I’ve persistently informed you that I’ll never go down easily.”

While I was not as obsessed with this book as I was with One Night: Promised, I absolutely loved it and I am very impatiently waiting for the next installment in Miller and Livy’s story. Jodi Ellen Malpas remains one of my favorite contemporary romance authors and I treasure every word she writes.

(Thanks to the publisher for an ARC of One Night Denied)

Excerpt:

I know I look out of place as I stand near the gym entrance, clearly hesitant, and looking a little overwhelmed. All the machines look like spaceships, hundreds of buttons or levers on each one, and I haven’t the first idea how to operate them. My one-hour induction last week did a great job of distracting me, but the information and instructions fell straight from my memory the second I left the exclusive fitness center. I scan the area, fiddling with my ring, seeing masses of men and women pounding the treadmills, going hell for leather on the bikes and pumping weights on huge lifting devices. They all look like they know exactly what they’re doing.

In an attempt to blend in, I make my way over to the water machine and gulp down a cup of ice water. I’m wasting time being hesitant when I could be releasing some stress and anger. I spot a punching bag hanging in the far corner with no one within ten meters of it, so I decide to give it a try. There are no buttons or levers on that.

I help myself to the boxing gloves hanging on the wall nearby. After securing the Velcro, I give the bag a little poke. I’m surprised at how heavy it is. I inject some power into my weak arm and throw some effort into my next hit. I grunt too, and the bag shifts significantly this time, moving away from me and seeming to pause in midair before it’s on its way back toward me. Fast. I panic and quickly pull back my fist, then extend my arm to prevent being knocked to the ground. Shockwaves fly up my arm when my glove connects with the bag, but it’s moving away from me again. I smile and spread my legs a little, bracing myself for its return, then smack it hard again, sending it sailing away from me.

My arm is aching already and I suddenly realize I have two gloved hands so I pummel it with my left this time, smiling wider, the impact of the bag on my fists feeling good. I’m breaking out in a sweat, my feet are beginning to shift and my arms getting into a rhythm. My shouts of satisfaction spur me on and the bag morphs into more than a bag. I’m beating the shit out of it and loving every moment.

I don’t know how long I’m there, but when I finally let up and take a moment to think, I’m drenched, my knuckles are sore and my breathing erratic. I catch the bag and let it settle, then take a cautious glance around the gym. No one is staring. I’ve gone totally unnoticed, everyone focused on their own workout. I smile to myself and collect a cup of water and a towel from the nearby shelf, wiping my brow as I make my way from the huge room. For the first time in weeks, I feel prepared to take the day on.

I head toward the changing rooms, feeling like a lifetime of stress and woes have just been knocked out of me. The urge to go back in and pound for another hour is hard to resist, but I’m already at risk of being late for work so I push on, thinking this could get addictive. I’ll be back tomorrow morning, maybe even after work today, and I’ll thrash that bag until there are no more traces of Miller Hart and the pain he’s caused me.

I pass door after door, all with glass panes, and peek into each class that’s in session—yoga, spinning, kickboxing. I might try one or two. Or I could give them all a go.
As I’m passing the final door before the women’s changing rooms, something catches my eye. It’s a punching bag swinging from the ceiling hook, but no one’s in sight. I step closer to the door, then gasp and jump back as someone comes into view, bare chested and barefoot. I feel dizzy.
He has those shorts on, the ones he wore when he was trying to make me comfortable. I’m shaking, but my shock doesn’t stop me from peering back through the glass, just to check I wasn’t hallucinating. I wasn’t. He’s here, his ripped physique mesmerizing.  He looks violent as he attacks the hanging bag like it’s a threat to his life, punishing it with powerful punches and even more powerful kicks. His body weaves and dodges the bag when it comes back at him. He looks like a pro. He looks like a fighter.

I’m frozen on the spot as I watch Miller move around the hanging bag with ease, his fists wrapped in some kind of bandages, his limbs delivering controlled, punishing blows time and time again. Who does he see before him?

My mind spins, questions mounting, as I quietly observe the refined, well-mannered, part-time gentleman become a man possessed, that temper he has warned me about clear and present. But then I retreat a pace when he suddenly grabs the bag with both hands and rests his forehead on the leather, his body falling into the now subtle sway of the punching bag. His back is dripping and heaving, and I see his solid shoulders rise suddenly. Then he begins to turn toward the door. It happens in slow motion. I’m rooted in place as his chest, slicked with a sheen of sweat, comes into view and my eyes slowly crawl up his torso until I see his side profile. He knows he’s being watched.

2014 Read Pink® in Honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Read Pink® in Honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Support the Next Chapter in Innovative Research

Penguin Random House Marks Five-Year Partnership Milestone and $125,000
in Donations to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation®

What’s black and white and pink all over? The initiative by Penguin Random House called Read Pink® in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October)!

Today the scientific community has left behind the “one-size-fits-all” breast cancer treatment to emerge with targeted, more effective therapies. As a result, after remaining stagnant for more than 50 years, the death rate from breast cancer has decreased by 30 percent. The Read Pink® initiative by Penguin Random House is proud to be part of this exciting new chapter in the fight against breast cancer, supporting the bold research of The Breast Cancer Foundation® (BCRF), while leveraging its passionate readers to help increase awareness and education about the disease. This literary embrace of a life-saving cause has resulted in nearly 1.5 million best-selling novels shipped with Read Pink seals and information about BCRF across all five years of the promotion.

Penguin Random House is thrilled to partner once again this year with BCRF, as 91 cents of every dollar spent by BCRF is directed towards breast cancer research and awareness programs.

The $25,000 donation that Penguin Random House contributes, regardless of sales, provides vital funds to support the mission of BCRF.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Penguin Random House’s Read Pink® editions, we are featuring a few participating authors and what Read Pink® means to them…

a-hundred-summers-198x300

Beatriz Williams (2014 Read Pink® Spokesperson), A Hundred Summers

“Every life lost to breast cancer leaves behind a hole that can never be filled again: a wife, a mother, a sister, a friend, an aunt, a grandmother. I’m so grateful for organizations like The Breast Cancer Research Foundation for their efforts to find a cure for this devastating disease, and honored to support breast cancer awareness, detection, and research through Penguin’s READ PINK program in 2014. With your help, we can move closer to the day when breast cancer leaves behind only survivors.”

the-time-between-198x300

Karen White, The Time Between

“Since 1989, death rates from breast cancer have been decreasing due to earlier detection and improved treatment because of the efforts of organizations like The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Books have always been an important part of my life, and I am honored that my book will be part of Penguin’s Read Pink program that supports breast cancer awareness and research through reading. It is my greatest hope that through efforts like this we might find a cure within my lifetime.”

Sea-Swept-187x300

Nora Roberts, Sea Swept and The Witness

“To all the moms and daughters, wives and sisters, lovers and friends, Read Pink is here for you and yours. Help support breast cancer awareness and the strong, brave women who fight or will fight this disease and Read Pink in October.”

Perfect-Timeing-192x300

Catherine Anderson, Perfect Timing

“I am so delighted to be included in the Read Pink campaign again this year with Perfect Timing being featured, along with so many other great books, to raise funds for breast cancer research. I can remember when a diagnosis of breast cancer was often equivalent to a death sentence. Nowadays, the survival rates have increased greatly, and I personally know women who have prevailed over this terrible disease. Sadly, I’ve also known a few women who lost the battle. So I call upon all of you to join ranks with me and countless other women in a war to defeat breast cancer. ‘Read Pink! Buy books bearing the Read Pink logo as gifts for the women you love.’ By standing together as sisters, we have it within our power to make a huge difference!”

Dream-eyes-198x300

Jayne Ann Krentz, Dream Eyes

“This is the time of year when we celebrate the progress that has been made in the battle against breast cancer and acknowledge the work that lies ahead. No, we aren’t there yet. There’s a long way to go. The greatest weapon we have to fight this disease is research and research costs money. That is why this breast cancer awareness campaign is so important and why I am proud to participate.”

I-Want-To-Hold-Your-Hand-2-186x300

Marie Force, I Want to Hold Your Hand

“I’m so thrilled to be part of the Read Pink effort to help raise awareness and funding for breast cancer research. I hear frequently from romance readers who tell me my books and those of other romance authors have helped them get through breast cancer treatment. I want to hear from fewer of them in the future. I want to hear they took our books on fabulous vacations rather than treatments. Please Read Pink in October to support all the courageous women fighting this disease and to fund critical research. Thank you for Reading Pink!”

Excerpt

“You have a great ass,” she whispered.
“Yeah?”
“Oh, yeah!”
“It’s all yours,” I challenged her. “You only gotta ask.”
“Maybe I won’t ask; maybe I’ll just grab a hold,” she laughed.
“Fine by me.”
As the trees thinned out, I could see people already laying out beach towels, and a couple of guys throwing a football. Some of them I knew, but there were several I didn’t. I thought maybe they went to Viera or Rockledge schools.
Yansi laid out two towels for us while Megan took charge of the food and Esther was eye-fucking one of the guys playing football.
I tugged off my t-shirt and plopped down next to Yansi. She was wearing some real short cut-off jeans that showed her butt cheeks, and a tank top that was cropped above her belly button. She looked incredible.
“How come you were allowed to leave the house like that?” I teased.
She smirked at me and pointed to her sweater.
“I tied this around my waist. Papi couldn’t tell the difference.”
“And your mom?”
Yansi laughed. “She just shook her head and said to tell you hi.”

MeetTheAuthor

I started writing contemporary romance two years ago. Before that, I didn’t think I could write a sex scene. Turns out I can!

My lucky number is 13 because I was born on the 13th and live near a haunted castle by the ocean. My number one past-time is watching hot surfers get changed into (and out of) their wetsuits.

My husband doesn’t read my books. My mother does.

Writing is my love, my hobby, my total addiction. All my characters are important to me and whisper their stories, even when I’ve finished writing their books. That’s why you’ll often find bonus chapters/out-takes from various books, because those voices just won’t be quiet.

BOOK 1
Eversea by Natasha Boyd
Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance
Publication date: June 10th 2013

Synopsis:

Eversea, a love story, is a Winter Rose Contest FINALIST 2013. Emilia Pisani of Simon & Schuster (judge) says “Great southern flavor!” and “Jack is an alluring leading man!”

An orphaned, small-town, southern girl, held hostage by responsibility and self-doubt.

A Hollywood A-list mega-star, on the run from his latest scandal and with everything to lose.

A chance encounter that leads to an unlikely arrangement and epic love affair that will change them both forever.

When his co-star and real-life girlfriend is caught cheating on him with her new director, A-list hottie, Jack Eversea, finds himself in sleepy Butler Cove, South Carolina. Jack hopes the sultry southern heat in this tiny coastal Lowcountry town will hide him not only from the tabloids and his cheating girlfriend, but his increasingly vapid life and the people who run it. He doesn’t count on meeting Keri Ann Butler.

Keri Ann has relied on herself so long, dealing with her family’s death and the responsibilities of keeping up her family’s historic mansion, that boys and certainly the meager offering of eligible boys in Butler Cove, have never figured into her equation. But fate has other plans. Suddenly face to face with the man who played the movie role of her favorite fictional character, Jack has Keri Ann yearning for everything she has previously avoided … and Jack must decide whether this funny, sassy girl is worth changing his life for, before his mistakes catch up to him.

Suddenly Jack is back, and his explanations for why he left seem more and more plausible, and his declarations more seductive. But being Jack’s latest tabloid accessory isn’t on Keri Ann’s career agenda, no matter how much she is attracted to him. And how can she can ever trust him again?

Jack knows he let the only ‘real’ thing that ever happened to him slip through his fingers. And his hands have been tied to try and stop it. Until Now.

My Review:

There are a few books that stay with you long after you finish and Eversea and Forever Jack are among those books. I not only fell in love with Keri Ann and Jack, I fell in love with Butler Cove, South Carolina. I absolutely loved the setting and sense of place created by Ms. Boyd and after the conclusion of Eversea, I was desperate to come back to the characters I loved so much!

Keri Ann has sacrificed much of her life and happiness out of family duty. Finally, after Jack has left, she makes something of herself as an artist, and finally is able to pursue an art education. She was devastated at their absence after Jack’s departure from the small town of Butler Cove, but to the author’s credit, Keri Ann doesn’t just pine away. She is strong and tries to move on in a positive way.

And Jack, my heart broke for him! When he explains his situation, I was hoping and praying that Keri Ann could be understanding enough and strong enough to accept him back into her life. But she has her own insecurities. Can she withstand the almost constant pressures that come with dating an international superstar?

Forever Jack is a beautifully written book filled with memorable characters and a story that flows perfectly. If you are looking to get lost in a book, look no further than Eversea and Forever Jack.

I also fell in the love with these book covers, the soothing colors and design transport me (in my mind) back to the beach. Jack is one of my top book boyfriends, funny, sensitive, handsome, and oh yes, SEXY as hell! He is not perfect, and there were a few times where I was literally on the edge of my seat, hoping that both he and Keri Ann wouldn’t keep their pride in the way of their great love. The conclusion of this series was perfect and would only be better if there were more books coming about Jack and Keri Ann. This is a 6-star series for me and I can’t recommend the books highly enough.

(ARC provided by the author in return for an honest review.)

Blog Tour and Giveaway – It’s Not Over by A.L. Zaun

Title: It’s Not Over (The Do Over #2)
Author: A.L. Zaun
Genre: Adult/Contemporary Romance

SYNOPSIS:

“If I let go, will you catch me?”

He had wanted her to help him win his ex-girlfriend back. She had wanted to teach him a few lessons on how to treat a woman. Neither one had planned for the unexpected.

I couldn’t stand by and watch. It hit too close to home. I had to run fast and far to get away and forget him. He weaseled his way into my life, making me question rules I lived by and turned my orderly life upside down. I’m falling apart and coming undone. I don’t do that. I’m Madison Stuart. I live life by my rules. I won’t be derailed by a man. I won’t…I can’t.

She’s gone. I’m desperate and going insane. I’ll do whatever it takes to find her. I don’t know when it happened, but I won’t let her go, not like this. What has she done to me? I’m Rick Marin for crying out loud. I don’t chase women, but she’s not just a woman. She’s Maddy–my Maddy–and I need her.

Follow Rick and Madison’s story, The Do Over’s most notorious couple, as they learn that It’s Not Over.

Review:

In It’s Not Over, we meet Madison who was raised by her grandparents. Her grandfather is a very successful restauranteur and she is following in his foot steps, by managing one of the bars. Madison has a promiscuous history but slept with guys as a means to forget and not feel pain. In walks Rick, who she meets at the bar. He is one arrogant asshole! Madison tells him she’s going to help him get the girl he’s being pining away for. All Rick and Madison know how to do is sleep with other people without any attachments.
Will Rick and Madison be able to make a relationship work with all these obstacles in their way? I absolutely loved the constant banter between Madison and Rick; they were sarcastic and super funny. You should probably read The Do Over first; otherwise you will not be familiar with certain situations and references in Book #2. These characters have a lot of chemistry and they both do have redeeming qualities! I liked their family relationships. From the conclusion, it seems we will definitely see more of Rick and Madison.

Synopsis:

I was thrilled when I was offered a graduate teaching position at the prestigious Tennerson Girls Academy. At twenty-three, this would be my first ‘real’ teaching assignment. Working at the elite boarding school, home to the daughters of some of the wealthiest people in the world, was a great opportunity that I would’ve been stupid to pass up.

One week into my new job, and I suddenly had no idea why I chose high school…I was a seventeen year old boy once, I knew how teenage girls behaved.

You can’t even imagine the hell of trying to teach thirty, hormonal driven seventeen year olds who have been cooped up, away from any male contact.

I could handle the whispers every time I entered the room. I could even handle the obvious attempts at gaining my attention. What I couldn’t handle was her…

Rich bitches and way too many rules. Was it any wonder that I hated school?

Add to that the lack of male contact, and I was going insane. Like literally. I wasn’t used to this. A year ago I was normal. I had a boyfriend, friends and a loving family. There is nothing normal about me anymore, and nobody here lets me forget that.

My name is Wrenn, and I’m only here because my aunt took me in after what happened, but my aunt also happens to be the headmistress of this academy…Can you see my problem?

I’m hated for my lack of money, and I’m hated for who my Aunt is.

Then he arrived. Dalton Reed. My new history teacher.

Slowly, he helped me see that even in the worst situations, there is always hope.

My Review:

Always You is a very hot, sweet and sometimes angsty story of a student-teacher romance. Wrenn is very mature for an 18 year old and Dalton is only a few years older, just out of college. Added to that is the fact that he is teaching at her school on a temporary assignment, filling in for a teacher on maternity leave.

Their attraction builds, and their scenes together are very satisfying and super-steamy. This story is perfect for when you need a sexy, fairly quick read that is a standalone with no cliffhanger. I didn’t feel too much of a taboo feeling towards their relationship, but I was on pins and needles waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Dalton is hiding a life-changing secret that is hinted at from the beginning. I liked the sensitivity with which the author dealt with his topic, and the ending and prologue were nicely satisfying. Always You is another enjoyable, sexy and emotional read from Missy Johnson.

image

Excerpt:

Her fingers closing around the hem of her sweater, she lifted it over her head. God, she was so fucking sexy. I kissed hers breasts around the cup of her lacy black bra, pulling it down to expose her soft skin. My mouth fondled her nipple until it sat erect.
“I want you so fucking bad, Wrenn.”
She kissed me and then stood up, wiggling out of her jeans. Pushing me back on the bed, she reached for my belt, unbuckling both it and my pants. I lifted my hips, letting her pull them down, along with my boxers, until they pooled in a pile on the floor. My cock ached for her as she kneeled down. Taking the tip in her mouth, she began to suck.

About the Author:

Missy lives in a small town in Central Victoria with her husband, and her confused pets (a dog who think she’s a cat, a cat who thinks he’s a dog…you get the picture).
When she’s not writing, she can usually be found looking for something to read.

Excerpt:

We were interrupted by a knock at the door. I was both relieved and irritated at the same time. I suppose it was a blessing that someone had interrupted us because I wasn’t sure how much longer either of us was going to last without some kind of physical contact. I needed to find some distance between us because I was beginning to lose all of my self control when it concerned Dylan Prescott.

Title: Promiscuous

Book 2 in the Fixer Series

Author: Alyson Raynes

Genre: Suspenseful Romance/Erotica

Synopsis:

Dylan had received a peculiar phone call from the governor, leaving me stranded and alone in his magnificent penthouse. The events of the evening draining me free of any energy I had left. I wanted to ask where he was going, but I had a gut feeling I knew the answer to that question. It was his job to clean up a scene before anyone found out the gruesome details of a crime. Then again, I found myself curious, wondering if Dylan himself had manufactured the hit on Amber Martinelli to frame Stefan.
I stepped out onto the terrace overlooking the city. The lights were bright, twinkling as the roar of late night traffic lingered in the air. A cold front was moving in and a slight chill moved through me. Knowing how Dylan felt about me, I knew he would do anything to keep me safe. Committing murder wasn’t beneath him and it was dangerous for me to think that he could be involved in Amber’s.
Goodreads

Excerpt:

“Well…bitch! I may be trash but I’m nothing like you. For starters, when someone says it’s over, it means it’s over. It doesn’t mean you continue to call them, stop by their house or continue to try and seduce them. You see Misty, Dylan is a lot nicer than I am, so I’ll put it in a language that you can easily understand. You’re a whore Misty. You’ll stick your mouth on any cock that’s put before you, just so you can climb your way to the top of the corporate ladder. That’s right, I’ve heard all of the office talk about you and seeing how you parade around like a piranha with Dylan, I know it’s true. Now get the fuck out of my room so I can finish fucking my fiance!”
