THE MISJUDGED SERIES BOOK BLITZ by SARAH ELIZABETH @AuthSarahEliz

November 27, 2014

BLITZ

Misjudged (Book one)

Misjudged Final E-book_cmyk

Synopsis:

It was one night.

One night of pure intimacy with a guy she knew nothing about, that couldn’t have prepared her for the next chapter in her life.

But will it be for the better, or for the worse?

Eighteen year old, Alexis Harper, is a smart, attractive, and ambitious young woman with great friends, a doting father, and a scholarship at one of Washington State’s most prestigious Performing Arts Colleges.

When the mysterious stranger makes his arrival in her life, she’s captivated by him. She’s intrigued by his past and more so by what the future could possibly hold for them.

Meet Brandon Taylor.

A damaged and confused twenty year old who is grieving for the life he once had.

He didn’t think for one moment that he could ever find happiness, and he didn’t want to. He was happy living within the high walls he’d barricaded around himself.

It felt safe.

When Alexis’ and Brandon’s worlds collide, nobody could have prepared them for the emotional rollercoaster they were about to board together.

With love, loss, deceit, and betrayal abound, it’s pretty hard to trust even those closest to you, as both Brandon and Alexis are soon to find out.

***Suitable for 18 years + due to language and sexual content***

Excerpts.

Misjudged:

“Oh, I love this one!” There she goes again. I laugh at Alyssa’s delight as she bobs her head to the rhythm. “I wish I could play!”

“I could teach you if you want,” Brandon suggests and I see her screwing her face up at the mere thought of it. I don’t know why, but I’m feeling frustrated by how they’re so friendly towards each other, and then inwardly curse myself for being overly dramatic. They don’t have any reason not to be. I guess it’s because I want to be the one having a comfortable and easygoing conversation with him. Oh, hell.

“Not with these nails, babe! Besides, I’m all fingers and thumbs when it comes to stuff like that!” She waves her hands up in the air as she wiggles her fingers out in front of her.

I seriously wish I hadn’t taken a sip of my beer at that precise moment because the amount I just spluttered out of my mouth and all over myself at her remark has gained everyone’s attention.

“Are you okay?” Ryan jumps up and grabs me a couple of tissues from the coffee table. “What? You don’t think she would be any good at it?”

“Fingers and thumbs!” Alyssa bursts out laughing as she catches onto why I reacted in that way. “’Mr. Operation Orgasm’! We still need to find out who he is!”

I notice Brandon’s head snap up and feel my cheeks warming when I see a tiny smile playing over his lips, and for a split second, a sparkle bounces around in his eyes. Why can’t he be that same guy from Friday instead of the womanizing man whore that he so obviously is?

“’Mr. Operation Orgasm’?” He’s looking at me with raised eyebrows, and I hear a trace of amusement in his tone. “This sounds interesting.”

FINAL MISPLACED TRUST

Misplaced Trust (Book Two)

Synopsis

Forever.

That one word was supposed to mean their love would never end, yet only twenty-four hours after he promised her forever, Brandon tore it away in a single heartbeat, leaving Alexis brokenhearted and unable to answer the simple question as to why he left.

As Alexis tries to understand his reasons for leaving, while wondering and hoping he will one day return, her life faces yet another downward spiral. She finally learns the truth about both her own and Brandon’s pasts, which in turn leaves her feeling their relationship wasn’t what she thought it had been at all.

Trust.

You’re supposed to be able to trust those closest to you, but what happens when the most important people in your life turn out to be those you shouldn’t have trusted or had any faith in at all?

Love, lies, deceit, and betrayal make for another unsteady ride in the Misjudged series, with only two options left open for Alexis and Brandon.

A happily ever after, or a journey in which ends in one of the most tragic of circumstances?

Misplaced Trust:

“It was nice meeting you, Alexis,” I hear him call after us. Stilling for a second and glancing over my right shoulder, I see him nod once when our eyes meet, his hands now stuffed in the front of his pants pockets. “I’ll see you around.”

I don’t recall giving him my name. In fact, I’m darned sure I didn’t tell him. Did I?

Alexis. People around here call me Alex, not Alexis. The only other person who ever called me that was, well, we know who that was. I don’t know, maybe I did introduce myself without even realizing. I haven’t exactly been with it recently.

“Do you know him?” Neil asks as he ushers me towards our building.

“No,” I answer him. “At least … I don’t think I do.”

Misguided Truths Part One:

“Hold that thought, I’ll be right back,” he places a quick kiss on my lips after checking the caller ID, and then leaves the table, summoning Corey, Gaz, and Sam to follow him as he walks out toward the sidewalk to take the call.

I take a sip of my milkshake and listen to Naomi moaning about having to babysit for her kid sister again tonight. A few minutes have passed by, and when I look up, I see the four of them walking back over to join us.

My smile falters when I see Brandon raking a hand through his hair. He looks stressed about something. He always does this when he’s upset.

He briefly makes eye contact as he takes his seat beside me, though the frown over his lips and the sorrowful look in his eyes is making my stomach churn.

“What is it?” I take a hold of his hand as I ask and peer over towards Corey, Gaz, and Sam. They’re smiling brightly and seem really happy about something, though I can’t hear exactly what they’re saying as they chat with Ryan and Neil.

“Holl’s, it was the manager from the bar we’re playing at tonight … they, um … one of the other bands cancelled and they’ve had to make some changes to the time slot …” he begins. His voice is low, and his eyes aren’t anywhere as bright as they were when he first walked in here. “They asked us to play from eight … ‘til eleven.”

“What?” I hadn’t expected my voice to be quite so loud, drawing the attention of everyone seated around our table. “Well, you told them no, right?”

He turns to look at me and his eyes are filling with regret. “What? No. We told them yes. I mean, it’s our first gig and—”

“Brandon, it’s our two month anniversary!”

“Holl’s, we couldn’t turn it down. Listen, tomorrow. We can always do something—” he stops talking when I stand up and try to squeeze by him. “Where are you going? Holly, please? Come on, be reasonable here.” He places his hands on either side of my waist, though I instantly shrug him away from me.

“Reasonable?” I practically choke out. “You think that I’m the one who’s being unreasonable here?” I shake my head as I exit the booth and make my way towards the exit.

I understand how important the gig is tonight, I really do. But, why does our relationship always have to come second? This isn’t the first time he’s put the band before me. Before us. And, I’m pretty certain that it won’t be the last.

The cold air hits me as soon as I step outside and I wrap my arms around myself to try and keep warm. The door swings open as I lean against the window, and I see Brandon walking over until he’s standing right in front of me.

“What’s goin’ on?” he lifts his hand and brushes his fingers across my cheek. I break my gaze from his searching eyes and move my head to the side. “Holly, talk to me.”

“You really have to ask what’s wrong, Brandon? Really?” he takes a step away from me and lowers his hands, now placing them in the front of his pants pockets.

“This is huge for the band, Holl’s. It’s fucking huge. What am I supposed to do? You want me to tell them no and let the guys down?” He sounds frustrated.

“But it’s okay to let me down?” My voice cracks when I ask.

“We need this gig, Holly,” he speaks quietly through his teeth without looking at me. “It’s important.”

“More important than our relationship?” I ask. I’m starting to feel hurt from his words. He shakes his head, keeping his eyes focused on the ground, and I hear him let out a sigh.

I look over my shoulder and through the window towards our friends. Neil’s turned around in his seat and is watching us, mouthing the words ‘You okay?’ over at me. I give him a small smile and nod, though I’m sure he’s still not overly convinced that I’m telling the truth from the way his eyebrows are now furrowing on the two of us.

“Right, let’s get back to it!” Corey says enthusiastically as he, Gaz, and Sam exit through the doors. “Looks like we’ve got a few more songs to perfect before tonight!” He pats Brandon on the shoulder as he walks behind him and makes his way towards the white truck.

Brandon turns to look at me, and I’m not overly sure whether he’s angry or upset, maybe even a bit of both. He leans forward and whispers in my ear, “Please don’t be mad with me, Holly.” Placing a kiss on my cheek, I don’t reciprocate. I’m finding it hard to keep myself from crying through the disappointment I’m feeling.

“If I was to tell you that I have something special planned for tonight, would that help you change your mind?” he lifts his head, but his eyes answer for him and are telling me that he’s already made his decision. “I didn’t think so.” My voice is quiet, and I inwardly curse myself when I feel my bottom lip beginning to tremble.

“Holl’s,” he steps forward, but I move away and open the door to go back inside. “I’ll call you when we’re on a break.” He says from behind me.

I pause in the doorway and turn back around. Shrugging my shoulders is the only thing I give him. He breaks his gaze from mine and turns back around, slowly making his way towards the van while shaking his head.

Misguided Truths Part Two:

“Hey!” she snaps, and I keep my eyes firmly on her until she turns around to face me. Is she really that naive to accept a drink from a fucking stranger? I see the guy trying to sidestep away from us, but that’s not gonna happen. He can’t seriously think for one single second that he’s gotten away with this? No. He needs to be taught a fucking lesson. Without taking my eyes off of Alexis, I reach out and grab his shirt with my right hand, and shake my head at Alexis one more time before dragging that motherfucker toward the exit doors.

“What the fuck?” Did he just what the fuck me? Huh. Then I think it’s time to give some of the fuck back. I slam him headfirst through the doors and watch as he stumbles down to the ground. He’s a lot bigger than I am, but I think I’ve got this. “You’re gonna regret—”

“I’m gonna what? I’m gonna regret kicking the shit outta you?” I growl out, grabbing him by the hair this time. When he’s just about able to stand, I pull him down a small alleyway that leads toward the back of the building. “You see, buddy. I’m not gonna regret this for one single moment.” I grind while pushing him hard up against the stone wall.

“We could’ve shared her!” Oh, he didn’t. Tell me he didn’t just fucking say that? I grab a fistful of his shirt and wrap it around one of my hands while my other fist connects with his lower abdomen. “Argh!”

An uppercut across the chin and a couple of head-butts later, he’s rolling around on the ground and clutching his face. He thinks I’m done? Not a chance. I bring my leg back, but just as I’m about to kick him hard in the stomach, I feel hands grabbing my shoulders from behind me.

“Fuck, that’s enough man! Come on, I said enough!” Rye. Enough? No. I’ve only just fucking started here. That red stuff? Yeah, that’ll be his blood. I shrug Rye’s hands off of me and go to finish what I set out to do.

The guy rolls around some more once I’ve kicked him hard, and I lean down to bring him back onto his feet. I don’t even wanna think about what he was gonna do to her if he’d have gotten her outside. Asshole. Motherfucking— “Please! Stop!” Yeah, and what are the chances he would’ve fully ignored those exact words if they’d been said by Alexis or some other unsuspecting girl? Yeah, nice guy, huh?

Another few punches to the face and I think I’ve finally managed to break his nose. That’s a shame because what I really wanna break is his fucking peni—“Shit, you’re gonna fucking kill him if you don’t stop! I think he’s got the message, now let’s go!” Four hands are on me now, dragging me out from the dark alleyway and back onto the sidewalk; restraining me. I keep my focus on the dark space ahead. They’ll let go of me soon enough, and then I’m going back in. I’m not done yet. Not by a long shot.

Ryan Kendall is
broken. He understands pain. He knows the hand of violence and the ache of
loss. He knows what it means to fail those who need you. Being broken doesn’t
stop him wanting the one thing he can’t have; Finlay Tanner. Her smile is sweet
and her future bright. She’s the girl he grew up with, the girl he loves, the
girl he protects from the world, and from himself.

At nineteen, Ryan leaves to join the Australian Army. After
years of training he becomes an elite SAS soldier and deploys to the
Afghanistan war. His patrol undertakes the most dangerous missions a soldier
can face. But no matter how far he runs, or how hard he fights, his need for
Finlay won’t let go.

Returning home after six years, one look is all it takes to know
he can’t live without her. But sometimes love isn’t enough to heal what hurts.
Sometimes people like him can’t be fixed, and sometimes people like Finlay
deserve more than what’s left.

This is a story about war and the cost of sacrifice. Where bonds
are formed, and friendships found. Where those who are strong, fall hard. Where
love is let go, heartache is born, and heroes are made. Where one man learns
that the hardest fight of all, is the fight to save himself.

Later that morning after their workout and shower, Jake fell asleep on
the couch. Feeling at a loss with nothing but time on his hands, Ryan wandered
down the hall towards Fin’s room. She was sitting at a little study nook in the
corner, laptop open with one foot resting on her chair. She was wearing a tank
top and a little pair of shorts. Leaning up against the doorframe, he couldn’t
tear his eyes away from those long, delectable legs.

As though sensing his presence, she turned in her chair. He forced his
eyes upwards, catching a sexy flush fill her cheeks at his blatant perusal.

“Morning, Ryan.” She took off her black framed reading glasses and tossed
them on the desk.

“Morning, Fin,” he replied.

Against his better judgement, Ryan pushed away from the door and walked
farther into the room. Fin hadn’t changed at all and neither had his desire for
her. His heart kicked over when she met his eyes. He knew everything he was
feeling right now was written all over him, but he couldn’t seem to shut it
off.

Her eyelids fluttered closed and she whispered, “Why now?”

Ryan took a deep breath. “I don’t know,” he replied honestly.

He shouldn’t still be feeling this way after so many years. Why was he
doing this to her, and to himself? It was better for everyone if he stayed away
like he was supposed to.

“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have come. I’ll go stay at the barracks.” He
turned to leave.

“Ryan!” she called out. Scrambling out of the chair, she grabbed his arm
as he was halfway out the door.

“Fin,” he warned, looking down at her hand pointedly.

She took a step closer and he breathed her in, her scent like jasmine on
a hot summer’s day. He was surprised when he looked into her eyes and saw anger
burning hotly in their depths.

“Six years, Ryan. Do you know how hurt I was, each day passing by and
getting nothing—not even a note or an email? I didn’t just lose you. I lost my
brother too. Both of you left me, and I was okay with that. I understood that
this was what you needed to do, so I moved on. I built a life that doesn’t
include you. That was what I had to
do.” She paused and raised a shaky hand to cup his cheek. “I’d have given you
my entire heart if you’d only asked, but it’s not yours now. It’s not yours.”

Ryan closed his eyes, agony for losing what was never his rose in his
chest until he felt strangled by it. He placed his hand over hers, holding it
there until she tugged it away.

“You’re right,” Fin told him. “You should stay on the barracks … but I
don’t want you to. Damn you, Ryan,” she whispered fiercely. “I don’t want you
to.”

Ryan used his bulk to crowd her against the wall until there was no room
for her to move. Leaning one hand against the wall, he grabbed her hip with the
other. Her breathing rose rapidly and he leaned in, ducking his head until
their mouths hovered a mere breath apart.

“Why can’t I force myself to leave?” He rested his forehead against hers
and closed his eyes. “I hurt too. For six years I fought every day not to think
of you, and I lost, because every day you were all I could see. You were the
best thing in my life—so sweet and innocent, and so goddamn tempting.” His hand
strayed from her hip and slid down to grip her ass. He swallowed the groan. “I
stayed away so you could move on.”

Kayden is a bad boy that never played by the rules. Sophia has always been the quintessential good girl, living a life filled with disappointment. Everything changes when their lives become intertwined through a chance encounter online.

Hundreds of miles separate them, but the connection that draws them together is too much to be denied. As the layers of their lives peel back, Kayden keeps the dangerous parts of his past hidden to protect the woman who is becoming more important to him than he should allow. What starts as a pursuit of carnal pleasure turns into a complicated love story. His past is a tangled web filled with addiction, an obsessed ex-girlfriend, and problems with the law.

One mistake he thought he had left behind may end up ruining it all.

I LOVED this book! Read my review here
Excerpt:

Kayden: Come and see me. It’s summer and you’re off work. Come here, have some fun.
His text pulled me out of my sweaty naked fantasy, pulling me back to reality. Could I take that plunge? I didn’t want to be another fuck—meaningless.
Me: Feel like adding another notch to your bedpost?
My heart stopped as my phone began to ring. Kayden.
“Hey,” I said.
“Sophia, you aren’t a cheap whore. I’ve never thought of you in that way, ever.” I sighed, still unconvinced.
“Kayden, I didn’t mean to make you mad,” I said, closing my eyes, holding my breath.
“You’d didn’t make me mad at all, Sophia. I just want you to know how I feel, what I feel for you. For the first time in a long time, I look forward to waking up. I check my phone and message you before I even crawl out of bed.”
My stomach filled with butterflies, my voice quivered as I spoke. “It’s the same for me, Kayden; I just want to make sure I don’t become just another girl to you. I have to think about it.”
“Sophia, I don’t want another notch on my bedpost. I want to spend time with you. I want to show you this amazing city; you could use a little fun in your life—wipe away the navy blue.” Navy blue, I stopped seeing Bob weeks ago. I couldn’t pretend to be interested anymore. I wanted to be home to talk with Kayden, my fantasies and daydreams were far better than anything Bob could deliver. “I’ll keep my hands to myself… I’ll be a gentleman. Come on, just a weekend.”
“So you don’t want to have sex with me, then?” I covered my mouth. What the fuck did I just say?
“Fuck, yes I do,” he said, causing my core to pulse, “I plan on it, you won’t be able to resist me.” He drew out his last words, my body breaking out in a blanket of goose bumps.

I love to read, I can devour a book a day, when given the chance or having the time. I can’t pick one favorite book, there are just too many that come to mind. I do have favorite authors though. My top five authors are: Colleen Hoover, S.C. Stephens, Tarryn Fisher, CJ Roberts, and Kele Moon. I agonized over the top five. There are so many fantastic Indie authors that help feed my quest for the next best story.

Writing has been a journey unlike; filled with anguish, love, fear, and creativity. I’m excited for the next step and to share Kayden and Sophia.

Excerpt

“Don’t make me use my womanly wiles on you.”
“Is that an option?” he asked, ducking his head and planting a kiss on her lips. His handed gripped the back of her T-shirt.
Stepping out of the embrace, she threw her hands up. “Ew, I’m seriously gross right now.”
“I think you’re beautiful.”
“Beautiful, and in need of a shower,” Lexi said, backing toward the bathroom.
“I could join you…” He trailed off as he backed her into the bathroom. His hands pawed at her shirt, which he quickly guided over her head to where it belonged…on the floor.
“I mean, if you insist,” Lexi murmured.
He slid her running shorts to the ground. “Oh, I insist,” he said, admiringly sliding his hands down her slight curves.
He backed up a step to flip the walk-in shower to its hottest setting before locating two towels and placing them on the counter. Lexi stripped out of her bra and thong, and then she walked right into the steamy glass shower. As he watched, she eased back into the spray, closed her eyes, and let her head dip back into the water. She heard him groan, and a smile played on her face.
A few seconds passed, and then he entered the shower. His hands retraced their earlier progression down her now wet body. She breathed in sharply when they moved back up to her breasts and flicked gently against her erect nipples. He leaned forward and took one in his mouth, pushing them both through the shower and back against the tiled wall. Lexi gasped from both the feel of him against her and the cold tiles behind her.
She wound her fingers into his hair and breathed in the air, thick with steam. He hoisted her leg up around his waist, pressing her harder against the wall.
“Fuck,” she cried as she felt the length of him slide between her legs.

BACKSTAGE PASSION by JADE C. JAMISON: RELEASE DAY BLITZ

November 21, 2013

image

Synopsis:

No one writes a rock star book quite like Jade C. Jamison. Four of her rock star novels and one short story are collected together for the first time ever as Backstage Passion. From the local indie band scene to the famous multi-platinum album rock gods, from an innocent young woman playing lead vocalist to a cheating frontman, Jade weaves a story like no other.

Then Kiss Me: Casey Williams has left a loveless marriage and is trying to rebuild her life. She finds that, even though you can never go home again, you can find lust again, and she finds a love interest in Scott, her coworker. She also discovers his secret, that he’s a drummer for a heavy metal band, and falls hard for him…just in time to find that, between his questionable friends and psychotic maybe-ex-girlfriend, he might not be the right guy for her. But her heart beats like a drum for him, and she finds herself willing to play with fire to get closer.

Tangled Web: Katie Logan has had a secret crush on her best friend Johnny Church since high school, but he’s never looked at her the same way. So when Johnny—now a famous rock-and-roll guitarist—comes home to visit, Katie can’t bring herself to tell him she’s engaged to be married. She should have, though, because she soon discovers that maybe the attraction is mutual…

MADversary: Megan Walker doesn’t plan to attend her high school reunion, but her best friend Lisa begs her to come along. Megan doesn’t want to risk running into her old boyfriend Tyler Green, a man who has since become rich and famous as the frontman of a heavy metal band called Madversary. Lisa convinces her that Tyler would never show up for something like a reunion, so Megan gives in, only to regret it. Because when Tyler does show up, the spark reignites, and she doesn’t know that she can bear letting him go again.

Be Careful What You Wish For: Grad student Jessica is given an offer she plans to refuse—hundreds of dollars to try to seduce an angry wife’s maybe cheating husband. But when the price just so happens to cover Jessica’s much-needed car repairs and she finds hot rocker Kage irresistible, she decides to give it a try, no matter the ultimate cost.

Bullet: An Epic Rock Star Novel. What if you discover the man you want is toxic?

She’d tasted a little bit of heaven with him, and now they’ve gone through hell and back, but can their relationship take anymore?

Valerie Quinn is a naïve college freshman when she meets on-the-rise rock star Ethan Richards. He’s an idealistic, handsome, reckless young man, but he’s captured her heart. She doesn’t give up on him and eventually his walls crumble down. By the time Valerie has given herself to him completely, she discovers he’s damaged and may be beyond help. Can she save Ethan and their relationship before he implodes, or will he self-destruct and take her with him?

Excerpt from Backstage Passion: Tangled Web

He shut the door and stood, facing Katie. “Well?” Katie drew in a deep breath. She was grateful that she wasn’t getting the vibes off him she had at their last face-to-face meeting. That night outside the bar when he could hardly stand to look at her was one of the worst nights of her life. She’d never felt so miserable as she had then, and she was convinced until today that she’d lost the best friend she ever had. She felt relieved now but knew there was still more she needed to say.

Johnny leaned back onto the counter, not sitting but no longer standing, his legs stretched out so that his eyes were almost level with Katie’s. There were no chairs to sit on in the room, and Katie was all right with that. This wasn’t that kind of conversation, and she didn’t need to relax. She took another deep breath before she began. “I just feel like we left things on a bad note the last time I saw you.”

Johnny shrugged, a wan smile on his face. “Hey. I’m over it, okay?” His smile finally moved up into his eyes a little bit. “No harm done. We’re still friends.”

“Yeah, but…” Katie forced herself to look in his eyes. “I just want you to know none of what happened was meant to intentionally hurt you.”

“Yeah, I know. You already told me that. And you’re forgiven, okay? We don’t have to keep talking about it.”

Katie swallowed. Wow. This was hard, and he wasn’t going to let her relieve her own guilty conscience. That was fair, she guessed. “Well, I just wanted to thank you, though, because if we hadn’t…done what we did…I would probably be married now and stuck in an endless, soul-sucking job for the rest of my life.”

Johnny’s mouth screwed up into a ball before he said, “I thought you liked your job.”

“I thought I was doing something important, and I was good at it, but I don’t think I could honestly say that I liked it. But…” Johnny finally raised his eyebrows, encouraging Katie to continue. “You remember what I planned to do after high school?”

“Yeah. You’re were gonna write the great American novel.” Katie nodded. “Weren’t you going to go to CU or something and study English or creative writing or something like that?”

She nodded again. “Yeah, but I found out before I left that dad already had cancer. I couldn’t go. So I went to WCC and then transferred, and by then I already had plenty of credits that applied to sociology, and my advisor steered me there. There was no value to a creative writing degree, she said. Creative writing degrees were a dime a dozen. She told me I could write while working at a job that paid the bills. So I just did it—she told me sociology was a diverse and growing field, and I had the aptitude for it. And before you know it, I’m pulling bruised and broken kids out of alcoholic homes, neglected and sick kids out of meth homes, and counseling parents who have no clue how to keep a clean house and pay the bills. It’s an important job, but it was killing me.

“I don’t regret staying home to go to school. In fact, I think I would never have forgiven myself if I’d missed that time with dad. But you reminded me of how I felt when we were ready to leave school and conquer the world, when we had hopes and dreams, and…”

He lowered his head, peering into her eyes. “And?”

“Well, I’m going to school here in Denver now, working on an MFA in Creative Writing.”

“What’s an MFA?”

“A Master of Fine Arts. I should be done in another year or so.”

“So now you’re going for it.” She nodded. “That’s good, Katie. You should.” His face was unlined and earnest, his eyes peering into hers.

She had so much more to say, but she was now close up to him, her face less than a foot away from his, those dark blue eyes framed by long, dark lashes almost crying out to her. She wanted to profess her deepest feelings to him, but she didn’t think she’d be able to get the words right. Maybe on paper she would’ve had a chance, but here, live, she doubted herself. She wasn’t an impromptu stage performer like Johnny. And being near him again, all she could do was remember their one night together as they were meant to be. It had been almost a year ago, and yet she could remember the way his tongue tasted in her mouth, the way his back muscles had felt under her fingertips, the way his skin smelled, the way his hands felt on her breasts, her hips, her back. She couldn’t forget the feeling of being so close with someone who had meant so much to her for so long, who knew her inside better than anyone else and yet had never tasted her intimately until that one time. It was a perfect feeling, and it had lasted but a few short minutes, before the guilt had weighed her down. And now she had no reasons to feel guilty anymore. She stared into those eyes of his that were as blue as the Rockies on a clear day and couldn’t hold herself back any longer. She had no way to stop herself, and she watched as though from outside as her hands cupped his cheeks. She closed the gap between them and brushed his lips with hers.

But the brush became insistent. He seemed to pause at first as she kissed him, but he responded quickly. As her arms wound around his neck, his wrapped around her waist and pulled her closer. And Katie thought that maybe her lips could say what her voice hadn’t been able to.

His heart dropped when he watched her walk into the room. He ignored the snickers and whispers and followed her with his eyes as she walked to one of two remaining seats in his class. Both up front. She had no choice. She’d have to be close to him.

When realization dawned that he was the guy from Highway 28, the fear on her face was unmistakable. He felt no such fear. He felt extreme disappointment. And hopelessness.

And then, there was the matter of her orange jumpsuit. He didn’t know how to address it or if he even should address it. A large part of him said to leave it alone. She was clearly being bullied, and she thought she would try to turn the tables.

But she looked ridiculous. She had to know it. He wasn’t sure if she’d actually won or just thought she did. He tried for a gentle, non-confrontational approach.

“Cadence, you might wanna go change,” he said softly.

Her eyes went wide. He wasn’t sure why. And then it hit him. He said her name! Yes, he remembered her name. How could he ever forget that name? Cadence. Rhythmic. His song. His life. He decided that afternoon on the side of the road. She was his cadence. It was an alarming moment of clarity now muddled by the realization that she was his student. He thought God was playing another cruel joke on him.

“This is the last of it.”
Calder’s voice draws my eyes up from the bookshelf I’m attempting to assemble. He’s standing in the doorway holding a cardboard box with the word “Miscellaneous” scrawled across it in Sharpie.
I grin. “Then it’s official?”
He meets my smile with one of his own. “It’s official.”
I leap up and run over to him. He barely has time to drop the box on the counter before I jump into his arms. My arms go around his neck, my legs around his waist. He stumbles back a step, laughing as he holds me up.
“We live together,” I whisper. “We really and truly live together.”
And before he has the chance to respond, I’m kissing him. It seems only right; after nearly six months of dating, Calder Cunningham and I have finally decided to take things to the next level. A week ago we signed the lease on an apartment together, and tonight, for the first time, we will be calling the same place home.
“Mmm,” he says against my lips. “What do you say we christen this place?”
He doesn’t wait for my answer. He carries me across the room, toward the one corner of the apartment that isn’t covered in boxes or disassembled furniture. I kiss his cheeks, his jaw, his neck as we move, not even bothered that I’m sweaty and smelly from a long day spent hauling everything we own up three flights of stairs. It doesn’t matter where we are or how disgusting I feel—one touch from Calder and I’m lost.
He lowers me to the floor. I dig my fingers into his hair as he presses me down against the carpet.
“Aren’t you tired?” I tease.
“Exhausted,” he says between playful nips at my neck.
“Or hungry?”
He bites me a little harder. “Starving.”
I laugh and tighten my legs around his waist. Oh, yes—I can feel exactly how starved he is.
“You know,” I murmur against his ear. “I bought a housewarming gift for you…”
“Did you now?”
He captures my mouth with his own, sucking my bottom lip between his teeth. I shiver and dig my nails into his back, abandoning myself for the moment to the taste of him, the smell of him, the feel of him. How is it possible, to want him this much even now? Wasn’t this fluttery, head-over-heels sensation supposed to fade months ago?
I pull away from him, panting.
“Your present’s in one of the suitcases,” I breathe. “I was going to wear it for you tonight.”
“Mmm,” he says, his eyes darkening in pleasure. “Sounds promising.”
“It’s completely sheer.”
“Very, very promising.”
I draw in a breath as his lips find my ear. “You know, you’re going to have to get off of me if you want to see it.”
“Get off? When I already have you right where I want you?” He grinds against me, drawing a gasp from my lungs. “The way I see it, this place has four rooms—”
“Five if you count the bathroom.”
“…and I plan on having you in every one before the night is over.” He moves against me again, then leans down to whisper directly my ear. “Bathroom last. I have a feeling we’re both going to need a nice long shower.”

EXCERPT

“Wake up, princess,” a male voice I only sort-of recognize says in my ear. My eyes are slow to open and I’m staring right at a chest I don’t remember falling asleep on. I lift my chin and meet a set of gorgeous brown-gold eyes.

“Hey,” he says, his voice soft as I realize I’m lying on top of him. At some point during the movie, he’d shifted under me and brought both our sets of legs up on the couch and laid back, pulling me so we’re front to front. My boobs are completely squished into his chest, which is the first thing that makes me try to shift off him.

“Um, hey,” I say as I struggle to get off him, but there’s no place to put my hands, so I end up trying to roll and he tries to help me, but I end up tipping too far off the couch, banging the back of my head on the coffee table and landing on my side on the floor with a crash.

“Oh my gosh, are you okay?” Is he laughing?

“Ow,” I say. I’m awake now. There’s a sharp pain in my hip, and in my skull. Jett reaches down and hauls me up.

“You’re laughing at me,” I say as I feel the back of my head.

“No I’m not,” he says, while trying to contain his laughter.

“Asshole,” I say, but he’s still holding onto me.

“Where does it hurt?” he says, finally showing some concern.

“The back of my head and my hip banged on the floor. That’s gonna leave a mark.” He walks around me and tenderly moves my hair out of the way to look at my soon-to-be-bumpy head. I go all tingly again, and the pain fades just a little. This guy is better than Tylenol. And then I feel something warm right where the bump is and I swear her just kissed it.

“And your hip?” he says, his voice low.

Is it possible to die from anticipation? Because I think I just did. Jett crouches down and I swear I’m going to have a seizure if he does what I think he’s going to do.

And then he very carefully places the lightest of kisses on my hipbone and OH MY GOD I SWEAR I CAN FEEL HIS LIPS THROUGH MY JEANS AND I’M GOING TO DIE NOW.

Excerpt from Bound by Wish and Mistletoe

Whatever power Robert possessed, it had more effect on Susanna than any amount of ale or spiced cider, casting her harrowing fears into faded memories. She had fallen under his spell and somehow couldn’t imagine being anywhere else. His incredible heat and power surrounded her, and all she wanted, what her body and heart, her very soul craved, was to be desired by him, to be protected by him . . . to be his.
“Doona move,” he warned, his voice rasping out, vibrating the skin of her throat.
A soft laugh escaped her lips. “I canna move.”
As he held her head back with her hair fisted in his hand, his devastating lips dragged down the side of her neck and across her shoulder, burning her skin with slow kisses along the way. An unquenchable fire built within her again, the ravenous need of her body overcoming lucid thought.
She swallowed hard. He seemed perfectly content to spend an eternity with his mouth on her shoulder blade. Unable to stand the increasing need within her, she squirmed beneath his hips, trying to ease the tension. For a moment, pleasure coursed through her, the friction against the rug creating a new, exciting sensation.
A loud growl at her ear and hard tug of her head back made her freeze. She whimpered, her scalp stinging, while a surprising erotic heat radiated down, stoking her building fire.
“I said, ‘doona move,’ and I meant it,” he clipped out.
“Robert, I canna help it. I need to move,” she replied.
“Aye, love,” he crooned, his heated breath trekking over the shell of her ear, “I know you do. Be patient. The reward is greater, the longer we wait.”
A heavy sigh whooshed out of her lungs, her feisty nature holding true no matter his wishes. His low chuckle followed.
Silken strands of his hair brushed across her shoulders as he placed his teeth on the skin between her shoulder and neck. He bit down into the muscle; but instead of hurting, an aching pulse shot straight between her thighs. She gasped in shock. He released the primal hold, licking the skin and blowing on it. Goose bumps raced down her body.
“Do you trust me, lass?”
