THE THRILL OF IT Synopsis:
A new adult story of Love. Sex. Addiction. Blackmail. And Power…
Some say love can be an addiction. Others say it’s the thing that makes life worth living. Let me tell you everything I know about love…Love isn’t patient, love isn’t kind. Love is a game, a chase. A thrill. Love is wild and war-like, and every man and woman must fight for themselves. At least that’s how it was for me. A high-priced virgin call girl by the time I started college, I was addicted to love and to sex. Even though I’ve never had either. I controlled love, played it, and held the world in the palm of my hands. Then I fell down from those highs, and I’m being blackmailed for all my mistakes, forced to keep secrets from everyone, except the only guy I don’t regret.
With all the other women, I knew what they were. They were temporary. They were pills, they were bottles, they took away all the pain, and numbed the awful memories that wore down my ragged, wasted heart. Until I met Harley. She’s the only girl I ever missed when she walked away. But now she’s back in my life, every day, and there are no guarantees for us, especially since I don’t know how to tell her my secrets. What happened to my family. All I know is she’s the closest I’ve ever come to something real, and I want to feel every second of it.
How can you love with no regrets when regret is all you know?
GUEST POST ~ Why you chose to tackle the topic of Sex and Addiction
In my opinion, sex and love addiction is one of the least understood addictions, and it’s far too easy to categorize love and sex addicts as nymphos or sluts or man whores. In most cases, that’s furthest from the truth.
Harley even tries to convey this in THE THRILL OF IT when she says, “I know what people think of love and sex addicts. They think you screw everything in sight. They think you have zero control over sexual urges, you’re a bunny rabbit, a bitch in heat, you bark at the moon. They think you climb the walls, scale the fences to get your next fix. They think sex addicts are nymphos, porn stars, jokes. And they think love addicts are just fine and dandy. They think love addiction is maybe kind of cool. There’s a song about it, right? What could be better than love? The thing that makes life worth living. If you’re going to be addicted to something, it might as well be love right? It’s such a better neediness than drugs or alcohol or eating disorders.”
That’s why I wrote about sex and love addiction. Because there is so much more to it than being really horny, or wanting to have sex all the time. Sex and love addiction, at its core, isn’t that different from other addictions. It’s about being dependent on something else, it’s about seeking highs, it’s about masking pain. It’s about need and numbness.
Addiction fascinates me as a writer and as a person. Addiction is one of the most powerful and powerless forces in the world. Like many of us, I have known and loved people who are addicted to different things. Members of my family have battled alcohol, drug, painkiller and shopping addictions. That’s why I was drawn to write about addiction, and specifically to tackle one that isn’t talked about much. I wanted to shine a light on the painful truths behind this addiction, and to show both the human side and the humanity of sex and love addicts, but especially the possibility of recovering and finding a true and real love after the pain.
