About the Book:
Olivia Dade bursts onto the scene in this delightfully fun romantic comedy set in the world of fanfiction, in which a devoted fan goes on an unexpected date with her celebrity crush, who’s secretly posting fanfiction of his own.
Marcus Caster-Rupp has a secret. The world may know him as Aeneas, star of the biggest show on television, but fanfiction readers call him something else: Book!AeneasWouldNever. Marcus gets out his frustrations with the show through anonymous stories about the internet’s favorite couple, Aeneas and Lavinia. But if anyone discovered his online persona, he’d be finished in Hollywood.
April Whittier has secrets of her own. A hardcore Lavinia fan, she’s long hidden her fanfic and cosplay hobbies from her “real life”—but not anymore. When she dares to post her latest costume creation on Twitter, her plus-size take goes viral. And when Marcus asks her out to spite her internet critics, truth officially becomes stranger than fanfiction.
On their date, Marcus quickly realizes he wants more from April than a one-time publicity stunt. But when he discovers she’s Unapologetic Lavinia Stan, his closest fandom friend, he has one more huge secret to keep from her.
With love and Marcus’s career on the line, can the two of them stop hiding once and for all, or will a match made in fandom end up prematurely cancelled?
My Review:
Adorable and so unique! I will admit that this book took a little bit of research to understand some of the fan fiction terminology but if you are a fanfic reader, you will LOVE this book! It has a little but of ‘You’ve Got Mail’ mixed in with ‘Game of Thrones’ and even ‘Outlander’. Overall a totally enjoyable and steamy contemporary romance with a wonderful heroine!
April is a scientist by day and also secretly a prolific writer of fanfic under a pen name. Marcus is the gorgeous star of the series she writes about and unbeknownst to her, also her online friend. Marcus also writes under a pen name, because he is afraid that it will jeacoradize his starring role in the series. This book dives deep into fandoms and cosplay, with April even facing the wrath of fans online when she beings dating Marcus in real life. She is not the Hollywood version of pretty but Marcus is truly swept away by her beauty.
By all rights, no one should look twice at him today, not when April stood nearby. It was a wonder she didn’t have paparazzi following her everywhere she went, simply to document the blazing glory of it all. “You look beautiful.” Simple fact. It had to be said.
Marcus does not reveal to April that he is her online friend but he is also hiding his true personality from his fans and the public. He is playing the role of the dumb but gorgeous movie star when in reality he is smart, sensitive and funny. Oh and the chemistry between April and Marcus is fantastic and just a joy to read!
Marcus does not know if he can trust April even though they are growing closer and closer. I loved how both characters grew and changed over the course of the story. April cannot believe that this handsome Hollywood actor is truly a kind, honest soul. I loved them together!
“There’s so much more to him than what he’s shown the world, and all of it is even more impressive than the person you see on your television and movie screens.”
This is my first book by this author and I will admit I purchased it based only on the cover alone. I mean, how amazing is that cover?! Although I would characterize this as a romantic comedy, there are some relatively heavy themes explored by the author such as family relationships and body issues. But of course there is a wonderful happy ending, because after all, ‘Spoiler Alert’ is a true romance novel. This is a smart, very sexy book and I look forward to reading more by Olivia Dade!
