WHERE THE TRUTH LIVES by MIA SHERIDAN

April 26, 2020

About the Book:

The follow-up to Where the Blame Lies—Where the Truth Lives is a gripping, page-turning, romantic thriller that will leave you gasping for breath.

When the director of a local mental health hospital is found murdered and mutilated, Homicide Detective Reed Davies is first on scene. What was done to the body is gruesome. Inexplicable. But Reed is dealt another curveball when he finds that the doctor who discovered the victim is someone Reed is intimately familiar with—a woman with whom he shared one passionate night weeks before.

Dr. Elizabeth Nolan is somehow tangled up in the crime, and even while Reed must now question her possible involvement, he can’t help being drawn to the beautiful, enigmatic woman.

As more bodies appear and the devious killer terrorizes Cincinnati, a shocking connection begins to emerge, one that not only involves Dr. Nolan, but Reed himself. A connection more twisted and elaborate than he can imagine. Now Reed must hunt the monster down, a killer who will stop at nothing to see his diabolical plan to its final, deadly conclusion.

My Review:

Thanks to the author for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Mia Sheridan really surprised me with this thriller. It is grittier, more suspenseful and more complex than what I expected, Although this could be read as a standalone, the story begins in ‘Where the Blame Lies’. This book is a little darker but still captivating.

Homicide Detective Reed Davies is on a hunt to capture a serial killer. There are many interconnected characters and events, and the mystery even involves his personal life.

Dr. Elizabeth (Liza) Nolan is also connected somehow with the recent events, and with Reed. They have a one-night stand early in the story, but then also become involved with solving the crimes terrorizing the town. Liza also suffered from a very dark childhood, and she is working through her past trauma even now as an adult.

“Some people are warriors. Soul warriors. There’s something stronger, less … breakable about them than others. You can knock them over, but they’ll just keep getting up. Again and again.”

This is a very twisted story at times and doesn’t shy away from the more explicit side of police investigation. Although this is a crime thriller, there is most definitely a captivating romance involving Reed and Liza which builds beautifully throughout the book. And you can always count on Mia Sheridan for a lovely and very happy ending for her main characters, no matter how twisted the main story is! All in all, a fast-paced romantic thriller that had tons of twists and surprises.

“Somewhere in there, Reed, in the midst of all those twisted pathways and shadowy corners is…where the truth lives.”

WHERE THE BLAME LIES by MIA SHERIDAN

September 16, 2019

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Abducted.
Terrorized.
Imprisoned.

At nineteen-years-old, college student Josie Stratton was kidnapped by a madman and held shackled for ten months in an abandoned warehouse before she finally escaped her hellish prison.

Eight years later, when the body of a young woman is found chained in the basement of a vacant house, Cincinnati Police Detective Zach Copeland is instantly reminded of the crime committed against Josie Stratton. Zach was just a rookie on the perimeter of that case, but he’s never forgotten the traumatized woman with the haunted eyes.

As more information emerges, the crimes take on an even more sinister similarity. But Josie’s attacker died by suicide. Does the city have a copycat on its hands? A killer who picked up where the original perpetrator left off? Or are they facing something far more insidious?

Josie has spent the last eight years attempting to get her life back on track, but now there’s a very real chance she could be the unknown suspect’s next target. As Zach vows to keep her safe, and Josie finds herself responding to him in a way she hasn’t responded to any man in almost a decade, the investigation takes on an even more complex edge of danger.

As past and present collide, Josie and Zach are thrust toward a shocking and chilling truth. A revelation that threatens not only Josie’s life, but everything she’s been fighting so desperately to reclaim.

MY REVIEW:

‘Casus belli.’ Where the blame lies.

Mia Sheridan continues to surprise and thrill with this darkly captivating romantic suspense story that was a real page-turner! I was a bit taken aback my the book description because while I love a good dark romance and thrillers, I wasn’t sure how Mia Sheridan was going to deal with this subject matter. Well you can rest assured that ‘Where the Blame Lies’ will keep you on your toes and guessing until the very end.

The story alternates between the past and present, describing Josie Stratton’s horrifying ordeal at the hands of a sadistic madman. How she survives her abduction and captivity is riveting reading. It seems now, however that there might be a copycat on the loose who is once again terrorizing young women. Josie has fought to build a new life for herself but is still plagued by troubling memories of her time in captivity.

“Starlight in a blackened sky. Blinking to life where before only darkness existed.”

Detective Zach Copeland is assigned to the current case and is determined to get to the truth. This book is not for the fainthearted and while there is a beautiful romance woven into the story, the crime/thriller elements are brutal. Mia Sheridan certainly doesn’t hold back with all the suspenseful details.

Josie is determined to help the police track down the truth even if it means re-living the most painful parts of her past. Detective Copeland is patient, meticulous and non-judgmental. I loved the romance between the two main characters, it was a slow-build, very realistic and not without its difficulties because of Josie’s past trauma.

“Maybe we’re all just going through the motions, trying to rework the stories that ended so badly in our early years. Trying so desperately to play a different role in the tragedies of our lives, yet using the same flawed script.”

Mia Sheridan has created a surprisingly readable story that will please even the most seasoned thriller readers. I applaud the author for stepping outside her usual genres with this book. The ending was satisfying, and the characters were very real and believable. I read this in one day because I literally could not put it down. If you are looking for a heart-pounding romantic thriller with a strong heroine, you will love ‘Where the Blame Lies’. I am looking forward to more books like this in the future from Mia Sheridan.

BRANT’S RETURN, A SIGN OF LOVE, CAPRICORN NOVEL by MIA SHERIDAN

January 9, 2019

SYNOPSIS:

Brant Talbot runs a glitzy network of high-end bars in New York City, enjoying all the benefits of the lavish lifestyle he’s worked so hard to achieve. When he learns that his estranged father is dying, he must return to his family’s Kentucky horse farm – and to a past he thought he left behind.

While facing long-buried truths, he collides with his father’s secretary, Isabelle Farris. Despite his undeniable attraction to the beautiful, independent young woman, he sees secrets in her eyes and believes she has designs on Graystone Hill.

Now the one woman he can’t afford to trust is about to become the one he can’t let go.

MY REVIEW:

Loss, love and redemption…no one does it better than Mia Sheridan! Oh and an arranged marriage! ‘Brant’s Return’ was a lovely and passionate story, mixed with a touch of suspense. The writing as always was beautiful and emotional.

“I’d already said goodbye to Harrison Talbot. The man was no longer my father. There was no need to do it twice.”

Isabelle suffered a violent tragedy when her family was killed in front of her one night. She took great comfort in equine therapy and began work as an assistant to the wealthy owner of a farm in Kentucky. I loved the gorgeous descriptions of the Kentucky countryside. Her employer was estranged from his son Brant, but Isabelle takes it upon herself to contact Brant so that he can visit his father, who was suffering from a terminal illness.

Brant and Isabelle could not be more different! Brant owns a chain of New York City clubs and Isabelle was brought up in the Amish community. When he fled his home in Kentucky, he never looked back. When he returns home, he is immediately suspicious of Isabelle, wrongly assuming she is his father’s girlfriend.

“No, thank you. I don’t drink.”

Brant chuckled. “As a bar owner, I have to say that’s disappointing.”

“Add it to the list, I suppose.”

“The list?”

“Of things you find disappointing about me.”

I love an enemies-to-lovers story! Brant overcomes his natural cynicism and begins to see what a beautiful, sweet and pure woman Isabelle truly is. She is selfless, and a far cry from the women he usually dated in New York City. They have a fiery passion, but they are from such different worlds. Would they ever be able to overcome their emotional scars?

“For a few minutes I lay in the quiet, listening to the snap of the dying fire, thinking about what we’d talked about—how quickly life could change. Wishing I could hold on to this—her—for a little bit longer, and knowing there just wasn’t a way.”

Mia Sheridan has written another sexy romance with two mature, conflicted adults who both have a lot to overcome. Many relationships are mended in this book and I loved the element of suspense.
‘Brant’s Return’ is a very sexy romance with the perfect mix of intrigue and surprise. I loved it!

“I don’t want you to be faithful because you’re afraid of turning into your father, Brant. I want your devotion to be pure, not inspired by fear, but inspired by love. It’s all I’ve ever wanted.”

(With thanks to the author for a review copy of ‘Brant’s Return’.)

Review: MORE THAN WORDS by MIA SHERIDAN

June 11, 2018

Release Date: June 12, 2018

Synopsis:

No one lays open the heart and soul quite like New York Times bestselling author Mia Sheridan.

The moment she met Callen Hayes, eleven-year-old Jessica Creswell knew he was a broken prince. Her prince. They became each other’s refuge, a safe and magical place far from their troubled lives. Until the day Callen kissed her–Jessica’s first real, dreamy kiss–and then disappeared from her life without a word.

Years later, everyone knows who Callen Hayes is. Famous composer. Infamous bad boy. What no one knows is that Callen’s music is now locked deep inside, trapped behind his own inner demons. It’s only when he withdraws to France to drink his way through the darkness that Callen stumbles into the one person who makes the music return. Jessica. His Jessie. And she still tastes of fresh, sweet innocence . . . even as she sets his blood on fire.

But they don’t belong in each other’s worlds anymore. There are too many mistakes. Too many secrets. Too many lies. All they have is that instinctive longing, that need–and something that looks dangerously like love.

My Review:

“Just for tonight—just one damn night—I wanted to lose myself in the sweetness so clear in this girl’s eyes, the pure innocence I could feel emanating from her.”

Romance lovers, rejoice! Mia Sheridan has created another absolutely unforgettable hero in Callen! This book made me literally sob happy tears at the end. It is an absolutely gorgeous story about the power of love, forgiveness and redemption.

Jessica and Callen were childhood friends, both trying to escape very unhappy homes. They bonded over music but one day Callen literally disappeared without warning and Jessica had no idea what happened to the boy who had stolen her heart.

“The two years I’d spent with her had been the only real childhood I’d had, the only time I’d allowed myself to play, and to lose myself in lands of fantasy, where anything was possible. She had been the only good. And yet that time was riddled with pain, too, and memories I didn’t want to look at, memories I constantly tried to push away.”

Years later they meet up by chance in France where Jessica has traveled to work on translating ancient writings about Joan of Arc (side note: I loved the parallel story about a young woman chronicling the life of Joan of Arc! Beautiful.) But Callen is now a famous composer, known for his constant partying and stream of women. He is also struggling with writer’s block and cannot seem to finish his latest composition. His tragic childhood has left him emotionally scarred and he is also hiding a potentially damaging secret.

Jessica is smart and kind and innocent. She has always loved Callen but is painfully aware of the women in his life and his inner demons. Is there any way that these two very damaged people will ever have a chance at happiness together?

“Callen Hayes was not the boy I’d known, and I shouldn’t have forgotten that, even for a moment, even here in this gorgeous room in the Loire Valley, where fate seemed to have once again brought us together.”

The plot sounds like this story is a cliched romance but it is definitely not! Callen and Jessica’s romance is gorgeous and emotional and very unexpected. The setting in France is beautiful and fills the story with richness. But underlying the story is the sadness that Callen carries with him and which could mean the end of his renewed relationship with Jessie.

“There was no place for sweetness in my life. And definitely no place for innocence.”

Callen and Jessie embark on a tentative relationship while she is completing her translation job in France. Jessie always believed in Callen but yet he doesn’t feel worthy of her. It is hard to compare a romantic hero to Mia’s Archer from Archer’s Voice but Callen comes very close. To the world he is a sexy musician but he feels unworthy of the adulation and especially of Jessie’s love.

“You weren’t nobody to me. To me you were everything.”

I loved the setting of this book and the surprising revelation about Callen, I also loved the “love story within a love story” relating to Joan of Arc. The Epilogue was just perfect. Mia Sheridan certainly knows how to grab your heart and she succeeded with this absolutely gorgeous love story!

“The music plays when I’m with you.”

Review + Giveaway: PRESTON’S HONOR by MIA SHERIDAN

February 25, 2017

Synopsis:

There were two brothers—identical twins—and though I loved them both, my soul belonged to only one.

Annalia Del Valle has loved Preston Sawyer all her life. The daughter of an impoverished migrant farmworker, she grew up as an outcast in what was no more than a tiny, cooped up shack in California’s Central Valley. But her heart found freedom in the land, in the wide-open spaces of Sawyer Farm, and in the boys who were her only friends.

Preston has yearned for Annalia since he was a boy. But a sense of honor kept him from pursuing her until he’s unable to hold back any longer and their worlds—and bodies—collide one hot summer night. A night that sets off a chain of events that will alter their lives forever.

Now Annalia is back in town after disappearing without a trace for six long months. Determined to reclaim her heart, her life, and the baby she left behind—the son who was created in a moment of lust and love and pent-up yearning.

Preston has survived grief, a ravaging drought, and the despair of heartache, but he’s not sure he can survive Annalia again. And he might be unwilling to try. Will pride and bitterness keep him from the one thing he’s always longed for?

How do you heal what is irreparably broken? How do you forgive that which is unforgivable? How do you discover that real honor comes not from circumstance, but from the place deep in our hearts where truth resides? And how do you move beyond the wounds of the past to discover that some loves are as solid as the ground beneath your feet, and as enduring as the earth itself?

THIS IS A STAND-ALONE SIGN OF LOVE NOVEL, INSPIRED BY GEMINI. New Adult Contemporary Romance: Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

My Review:

4 1/2 STARS!!

What a beautiful, gripping and intense story! I jumped into ‘Preston’s Honor’ without knowing too much about the plot. There is so much to love about this book: second-chance love, burning passion, forgiveness and compassion. Lia, Preston and his brother Cole all grew up together in rural California. Lia’s mother was a migrant farm worker and Lia always felt the pain of poverty and the sting of feeling not good enough. Not only did she have to endure teasing and bullying at school, her mother was also cold and unfeeling towards her.

“Nobody girl. Nobody girl. Nobody girl. Me.”

My heart!! Both brothers loved Lia, but through a series of events, it is Cole who begins to date Lia. Life happens, Preston and Cole leave for college and Lia is left behind in the small farming town. There are no opportunities for her to continue her education, and she is resigned to accept her lot in life. I absolutely love how the author sheds light on the conditions and the plight of our nation’s migrant farm workers. Lia does her best but ends up working for minimum wage in order to support herself and her mother.

The only bright spot in her life is Preston. She is overjoyed when he returns to town. Bound together by a tragedy, it is difficult to know whether their love will survive.

“Annalia. Christ. Seeing her again had been simultaneously torturous and joyful. I gripped the hair at my forehead, a sound of frustration coming up my throat. Hadn’t that always been the case? Only this time . . . this time the shock of seeing her as a woman had nearly stopped my heart. I’d felt . . . breathless. Struck mute. Consumed.”

Will Preston and Lia be able to find happiness? Things really do seem hopeless for them and there is much heartache and misunderstandings between them. Lia was a lovely, honest, caring and gorgeous character (inside and out) and Preston was magnificent. My heart almost stopped several times while reading this passionate story! I was desperate for these two to find happiness.

“Thank you, Preston.” For being my friend once, for giving me my first dance, for watching over me. It was all I had. It would have to be enough.

Once again, Mia Sheridan does not disappoint. I highly recommend this beautiful tale of second chances, redemption and mercy. And the Prologue was a stunner!! Happy tears were flowing all around.

“Or actually, maybe this is exactly where we were meant to start. Tonight. This is our beginning, Annalia.”

MY REVIEW:

5 STARS!!!

“It’s always been you, and no one else.”

WOW!! What a passionate, emotional and sexy story! Love, betrayal, loyalty, forgiveness…this book has it all!! I couldn’t put this one down!! I absolutely love enemies-to-lovers books, especially where there is an element of revenge. Plus, I adore Mia Sheridan’s writing so I could not wait to read this book. And I will admit I do sometimes judge a book by its cover, and this cover is STUNNING. So there’s that.

I immediately connected with these beautifully flawed and damaged characters. Their pain, suffering, humiliation and pride broke my heart and Mia Sheridan put it back together again. While Lydia could have been a cookie-cutter, snobby heroine, she instead came across as loyal, loving and willing to admit to her past mistakes. And they were HUGE. A stupid and cruel act when she was a teenager led to a domino effect of tragic consequences for Brogan Ramsay and his family. And now he is back in Lydia’s life, hell-bent on getting revenge for the pain she caused him all those years before.

“Learn from you mistakes, but don’t let them define you now. Find forgiveness, for them and for yourself.”

Watching Lydia and Brogan slowly make their way back into each other’s lives was painful, raw and breathtaking. So much drama and heartache separated these two that I lost thought they would never find their way back. There is an element of romantic suspense here which Mia Sheridan got just right. And the cast of supporting characters are all fabulous. (Fionn!! HELLO!!) Are there some pieces that don’t quite fit together? Yes, but they are non-essential to the story and the characters are so strong that they swept me away. I was lost in this book and savored every minute of it.

Brogan Ramsay had come from Ireland with his family and I loved how the author incorporated Gaelic throughout the book. What a beautiful and descriptive language! Ms. Sheridan’s books always leave a lasting impression and Ramsay is no different. I am still thinking about the characters a week after I finished the book. I fell in love with Ramsay Brogan and although he has’t quite replaced Archer as my favorite Mia Sheridan hero, he comes close! Don’t miss Ramsay, you will fall in love with these characters, too.

“There is such as thin veil between love and hate. I had chosen love.”

GRAYSON’S VOW – A SIGN OF LOVE NOVEL: LIBRA by MIA SHERIDAN

September 12, 2015

25167898

Kira Dallaire is desperate.

Some challenges in life seem too hard to overcome. With little money, and even fewer options, the quick-witted and vibrant twenty-two-year-old needs to reinvent herself. Known for her generous heart and impulsive personality, she devises a survival plan, possibly her most outrageous idea yet.

Grayson Hawthorn is losing hope.

Some obstacles in life seem too hard to overcome. Betrayal definitely being one of them. With limited capital, and dwindling resources, he is attempting to resurrect his failing family vineyard, a self-imposed vow seemingly destined to fail. That is until a young woman enters his office with an outlandish, unexpected proposition impossible to refuse.

What begins as a temporary business arrangement, soon evolves into more as vivacious, spirited Kira challenges detached, arrogant Grayson to want more from life. To want more for himself. But as their wills clash and fiery passion ignites, they’ll realize that sometimes the past creates walls too difficult to climb, and that lies and deception rarely precede a happily every after.

As Kira and Grayson race toward their destiny, they will discover that some vows are meant to be broken, and others are worth risking everything for . . . even your very own heart.

THIS IS A STANDALONE SIGN OF LOVE NOVEL, INSPIRED BY LIBRA. New Adult Contemporary Romance: Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

cooltext135233718814415

4 – 4.5 Enchanting Stars

Well, I certainly love going into a book not knowing what to expect! And Grayson’s Vow took me by surprise. This is not a “typical” Mia Sheridan story but it is magical, enchanting and irresistible nonetheless. Two very strong, sexy and damaged lead characters make this a very memorable story.

The story begins in a very gripping way: Kira is desperate, almost homeless, and immediately propositions Grayson Hawthorn with an almost-insane scheme: she must marry in order to gain access to an inheritance from her grandmother. Grayson, too, his desperate: he is about to lose his precious winery, and has reached a dead end due to his prison record.

Grayson is sexy, handsome, yet aloof and emotionally closed off. He has been hurt by those he trusted and loved. Kira is also emotionally damaged, but yet she still remains warm and engaging and filled with hope. She is young and impulsive but truly believes marrying Grayson is her only hope.

I fell in love with Grayson. He is cruel to most people but when you learn about his past, well, your heart will break for him. And Kira was betrayed by those she trusted most, which could have left her cruel and emotionally cut-off but she still retains the capacity to love.

“In Vino Veritas. In wine there is truth. In love there is truth.”

Grayson’s Vow is set in and around Napa, California, one of my most favorite places in the world!! I absolutely loved the scenery and the setting. There is also an engaging cast of supporting characters in this book which I loved. There is an air of magic to this book, which adds a bit of whimsy and lightens the emotional heaviness of the plot. There is PLENTY of steam and Grayson is just YUMMY. Who doesn’t love a bad boy with a heart of gold?

This book is very different from Ms. Sheridan’s other books, and gets into some overly-dramatic scenes near the end of the story. I still found this to be a beautiful story about the power of love and acceptance and honesty. And the EPILOGUE…OMG!! A 10+ which had be sobbing happy tears for Grayson and Kira.

Ellen’s Review:

5+++ stars!!

Thank the gods for Mia Sheridan! Becoming Calder is so very beautiful, my heart was overflowing in some parts, and breaking in others. This story is completely original and the characters are so brave and honest, that I was lost in this book from beginning to end.

Calder and Eden’s story is very unconventional and is very painful in parts. But their bond is so strong and passionate, that I just knew that they would be able to withstand any heartache and pain that came their way. I feel very strongly about the type of “community” that Eden and Calder lived in, and many scenes were almost too painful to read. I feel that the author absolutely nailed the psychological and physical abuse so accurately that it blew me away. This story unfolds layer by layer, with the reader joining in Calder’s slowly dawning realization that he and his family did NOT, in fact, live in a paradise.

We hadn’t chosen this life. It had chosen us.

Calder and Eden’s love is almost magical. But there is plenty of off-the-charts heat and longing between them to satisfy every contemporary romance reader. The story has tons of twists and turns and there are so many obstacles thrown at Calder and Eden that I was afraid they wouldn’t survive.

Where do you find your strength, Morning Glory, he had asked me.
From you, I had said, smiling and pulling him close.

Try to read this book without reading too many reviews with spoilers. Becoming Calder is passionate, refreshingly original and completely satisfying. A must-read!!

Spotlight and Giveaway: Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan

May 24, 2014

Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan absolutely blew me away! The characters, the setting, the story, the EMOTIONS, this book had everything I love about a great book. Mia Sheridan is a gifted and talented storyteller and Archer’s Voice is at the top of my all-time favorite books. I absolutely fell in love with Archer, he has suffered unimaginable trauma and is closed off from the world. Along comes Bree and awakens his long-dormant feelings and his abilities to possibly become a whole person again. Archer is an intense, sometimes difficult character and my heart broke for him. Don’t wait, Archer’s Voice is a must-read!!

Synopsis

When Bree Prescott arrives in the sleepy, lakeside town of Pelion, Maine, she hopes against hope that this is the place where she will finally find the peace she so desperately seeks. On her first day there, her life collides with Archer Hale, an isolated man who holds a secret agony of his own. A man no one else sees.

Archer’s Voice is the story of a woman chained to the memory of one horrifying night and the man whose love is the key to her freedom. It is the story of a silent man who lives with an excruciating wound and the woman who helps him find his voice. It is the story of suffering, fate, and the transformative power of love.

THIS IS A STAND-ALONE SIGN OF LOVE NOVEL, BASED ON SAGITTARIUS. New Adult Contemporary Romance: Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

About the Author:

I’m an avid reader, and now writer! of romance and erotic novels. I live in Cincinnati, Ohio with my husband who is a police officer and my biggest fan (not necessarily in that order). We have four children here on earth and one in heaven. When I’m not sitting on my couch with my head buried in my Kindle, I can be found writing or doing anything creative from building a patio, to sewing pillows. The wild hairs I get know no bounds. Leo is my debut novel, but my head is swimming with more…
