I pull my phone out of my pocket to call Beau Boudreaux, who also happens to be my landlord.

Of course, there is no answer.

The man lives upstairs, directly above this shop. Can’t he hear the water? Does he sleep like the dead?

Or maybe he’s not home.

I frown and open my mind, searching the building.

He’s home. I can feel his presence.

And he might be naked.

I immediately slam the psychic door shut and walk outside, up the wrought iron steps to his loft, and bang on the door.

“Wake up,” I mutter. “And put some pants on.”

I raise my hand to bang again, but the door is flung open and there’s Beau, rubbing sleep from his eyes, a frown on his handsome face.

He’s pulled some sweatpants on.

Thank God.

“What’s going on?” he demands.

“I have a leak,” I reply and swallow hard, willing myself to keep my eyes on his face, and not the sculpted muscles of his torso. I’ve met the man exactly twice, including right now, but what he does to my libido is ridiculous.

I’d forgotten that I have a libido.

Which is a sad statement all on its own.

“You had to wake me up at four-thirty for a leak?”

“I have three inches of water on my floor,” I reply and turn to stomp down the stairs. “Come look!”

I don’t look back as I wade back into my store. A few moments later, I hear Beau come clomping down the steps and look back as he fills the doorway with his wide shoulders. He’s tall, pushing six-and-a-half feet. His hair is dark, and his eyes are like old whiskey.

Those whiskey eyes survey the space, frowning when he sees the amount of water on the floor.

“Do you know where it’s coming from?”

“The bathroom,” I reply and lead him to it.

“The fucking ceiling fan?” He exclaims and shakes his head. “I was expecting the toilet to be overflowing. Old plumbing is unpredictable.”

“I was expecting the same, but here we are,” I say and cross my arms over my chest. He glances back at me, and his eyes drop to my cleavage for just an instant before he looks me in the eye.

I don’t uncross my arms.

“I’m going to shut off the water to the building.”

“Good idea.”

He rushes back outside and a few moments later, the water slows to a small trickle, and then fast drops.

He comes back inside and looks up. “Must be a broken pipe.”

“Are you a plumber as well as a billionaire mogul?” I ask, unable to resist.

His lips twitch. “I’m good at a lot of things.”

Oh, I just bet you are.

“Hi there, handsome.”

“You know,” I say as I lock the door behind him, then walk to my counter to close out the till and get ready to leave. “I’ve discovered that since you’ve been here, you’re very bad for my productivity.”
“How is that?” He leans on the counter and braces his chin on his fist, watching me.
“I’m closing the shop early, for one.”
“I do believe the sign in the window says you close at six.” He checks his watch. “And look at that, it’s six.”
“I haven’t actually closed at six since…well, I don’t remember. I usually chat with customers, redesign displays, shop for new stock. But most of that has been set aside because I seem to be spending most of my time with a certain sexy Brit. It’s a good thing you’re cute.”
He raises a brow and stands to full height, taking my breath away. His ink is on display again in a simple black T-shirt, stretched over wide, muscular shoulders.
Where did my knees go again?
“Cute, am I?”
His accent gets even thicker when he’s turned on, and it’s on full blast now.
“Adorable.”
He slowly circles around the counter and leans into me, pinning my hips against it. His lips are inches from mine.
“I don’t think a man is supposed to be cute.”
“No?” Oh, God, I can’t breathe right when he’s this close to me. His hands are on my hips now, his fingers under the hem of my blouse, and then gliding up my skin and over my bra to cup my breasts.
“We shouldn’t do this here.” Is that my voice? I sound breathy and turned on, which is pretty accurate.
“No one is here,” he says and brushes feather-soft kisses over my cheek to my ear. My body is one giant shiver. Thank God for the giant display I built today that blocks us from outside traffic.
As if by their own volition, my hands make their way down the back of his jeans to cup his very fine ass just as he nips my neck, making me gasp.
“How cute am I now?” he whispers, never taking his lips from my skin.
“You’re just precious,” I reply, hearing my own accent thicken along with his cock pressed to my belly.
“You make me laugh,” he says, smiling against my neck. “You make me so hard it hurts. And I’m grateful that you’re wearing a skirt.”
“Why is that?”
He reaches down and balls the material in his fists, raising it above my waist.
“You’re not wearing panties,” he says with surprise, his blue eyes pinned to mine.

Addison

It’s quiet in here now, and the silence is too loud. He’s staring down at his drink, his eyes a deep green in the low light of the bar. A crease forms between his eyebrows in a frown, and then he shakes his head, just a tiny bit. Jake sips his drink, and I can’t help but wonder what he’s thinking.

And I’m a woman, so I ask.

Because who ever heeded the whole, don’t ask the question if you don’t want the answer warning?

“What are you thinking?” I ask softly.

He chuckles and shakes his head.

“You don’t want to know.”

“I asked.”

He swivels in the stool, facing me, and rests his hand on the arm of my own stool, leaning into me, and it takes everything in me not to back away. His eyes lower to my lips.

I lick them, and watch his eyes dilate.

This is a very bad idea.

I swallow hard as he continues to watch my mouth.

“It’s quiet in here,” he says evenly.

“I was thinking the same.”

“Are you comfortable in the quiet, Addie?”

I frown and feel my nipples pucker when he reaches up and tucks my hair behind my ear. His fingers are warm.

I gasp and look up into his soft brown eyes.

“So, I brought the person who makes me happy to my happy place,” he clarifies.

Well . . . wow.

Before I can respond, he kisses my lips quickly and then pulls away to grab a blanket out of a saddlebag. He takes me by the hand and leads me up onto the rocks by the water. He spreads the blanket out and pulls me down next to him.

“Are you hungry?” he asks, and pushes my hair back over my shoulder.

“Not quite yet.”

He nods and his eyes heat as they rake down my face, my neck, and over my tank top, which I know shows off the girls nicely.

If he was going to keep me perpetually turned on today, I was happy to return the favor.

“You are so beautiful,” he whispers, and leans in to claim my mouth gently. His lips are gentle and soft, sweeping across my own rhythmically yet slowly, sending shivers down my arms and making my stomach clench.

He has only touched me with his lips and my stomach is clenched. I’m panting, ready for him to take me right here, in the middle of nature.

He cups my cheeks in the palm of his hand and pulls me closer, sinking into the kiss, but then he abruptly pulls back, his brows pulled into a frown.

“You really are warm,” he mutters, and feels my neck and forehead.

I laugh at him as I rub my hand up and down his firm chest. “It’s hot outside, Josh.”

“Let’s cool off.” He smiles down at me wickedly and begins to peel me out of my clothes.

“We might give the wildlife quite a show,” I warn him mildly, excitement coursing through me.

“That’s the plan.” He winks at me and quickly strips out of his own clothes. He pulls me up onto my feet and peels my jeans and panties down my legs.

“Now what?” I ask with a wide smile.

“Now we cool off.”

The music in my ears stops as my phone begins to ring. Without breaking my stride, I answer while pulling my tank off and tucking it into my shorts at my waist, letting it hang over my hip.
“Smith.”
“Do not tell me you’re having sex,” Matt, my former partner from Seattle, says.
“I’m running, asshole.” I grin as I cross Canal Street, over the tracks, into the French Quarter. “What’s up with you?”
“I’m just checking on you. How are things in the Big Easy?”
“Busy.”
“It’s kind of weird to have you breathing heavy in my ear,” Matt complains, his voice completely serious, but I can just imagine him grinning.
“We used to run together all the time.”
“Yeah, but the heavy breathing wasn’t in my ear.”
“How’s the family?” I ask. “How’s Nic?”
“She’s gorgeous.”
“I know that,” I reply. “I’m glad she finally made an honest man of you.”
He chuckles. “We might come down there, spend a few days in a couple weeks.”
“Look, man, I’m sorry I missed the wedding.” I grimace. “If this fucker hadn’t started killing these girls right before—”
“I get it. It’s fine.” And I know he means it, but regret hangs heavily in my gut. I love Matt, as if he was my own brother, and Casey and I both adore Nic, his new wife, as well. I was looking forward to their wedding.
But, duty called.
Duty always calls.
“So, what brings you to New Orleans?”
“Neither of us has ever been. I want to get away for a few days and we don’t have time to go out of the country. With her bakery, and the force, we can’t take that much time off of work.”
“Will she bring some cupcakes with her?” I ask with a smile. God, that woman can bake. “Casey would love it.”
“Don’t bullshit me. You would love it.”
“Tomato/tom-ah-to,” I reply.
“I’ll mention it to her. What dates work?”
“Nothing works. I’ll make it work, though. I’m in the middle of a serial case. Maybe I can bounce some ideas off you.”
“The Tulane University case?” he asks with surprise.
“You’ve heard of it?”
“A serial killer makes the national news, partner.” I grin at the nickname. “Don’t worry about us. Just make time for dinner. We can show ourselves around.”
“I’ll make time,” I reply as I approach the green and white awning of Café du Monde. Sitting at a table at the edge of the seating area is a pretty redhead and gorgeous brunette, and I smile widely as I slow down to a walk. “I have to go, partner. Just e-mail me the details. Looking forward to seeing you.”
“Me too. See you soon.”

“You didn’t ask for her number.” She scowls and pokes her finger into my chest. I look down at it, then glance up at her with a raised brow.

“You just assaulted an officer.”

“I did?” She swallows hard.

“Yes. I might have to arrest you.”

“With handcuffs?” She smiles gleefully, clearly excited at the thought.

“Would you like me to arrest you with handcuffs?”

“Hell to the yes!”

“Kate?” There’s suddenly a very tall, very irritated man standing behind the fiery redhead, staring daggers into me. I can’t help but laugh.

“I’m talking to the hot Asher,” she says, not turning to look at him. “I assaulted him, and he’s a cop, and he’s going to put me in handcuffs.”

“No, I don’t believe he will.”

I laugh again. “There’s nothing going on here, man.”

“Come see Lila!” Kate takes my hand, pulling me from my stool to the table behind us. Most of the women have cleared out, leaving just a few, including the sexy as fuck woman I met on the plane yesterday. “Where did everyone go?”

“Declan took them home,” Lila replies, and her hand stops midway between the table and her lips, holding her drink. Her violet eyes widen when she sees me. “Hi.”

“We meet again.” I sit next to her, my fingers itching to plunge in her dark hair and brush it over her shoulder. “How are you, Lila?”

“Fine.” She clears her throat and smiles at me. “I didn’t think I’d ever see you again.”

“A happy coincidence,” I reply softly. “You look beautiful.”

And she does. Her eyes are a bit glassy from the alcohol, her cheeks just a little flushed. Her hair is straight and falls down her back and over her slim shoulders. Before I can ask her questions about her trip here, or anything about her, we are soon pulled into the conversation with the others at the table. But when Kate asks Lila if she’s ready to go, I’m shocked when Lila responds with, “I’m gonna have Asher take me home.”

“I do like you,” he repeats. When I would look down, he catches my chin with his finger and tilts my head up. “But this is a bad idea.”
