ABOUT THE BOOK:
Making a Murderer meets Scandal in this story of police corruption, family secrets, and illicit affairs from bestselling author K.A. Tucker, celebrated for her “propulsive plot twists and searing seduction” (USA TODAY).
Noah Marshall has known a privileged and comfortable life thanks to his mother, the highly decorated chief of the Austin Police Department. But all that changes the night she reveals a skeleton that’s been rattling in her closet for years, and succumbs to the guilt of destroying an innocent family’s life. Reeling with grief, Noah is forced to carry the burden of this shocking secret.
Gracie Richards wasn’t born in a trailer park, but after fourteen years of learning how to survive in The Hollow, it’s all she knows anymore. At least here people don’t care that her dad was a corrupt Austin cop, murdered in a drug deal gone wrong. Here, she and her mother are just another family struggling to survive…until a man who clearly doesn’t belong shows up on her doorstep.
Despite their differences, Noah and Gracie are searching for answers to the same questions, and together, they set out to uncover the truth about the Austin Police Department’s dark and messy past. But the scandal that emerges is bigger than they bargained for, and goes far higher up than they ever imagined.
Complex, gritty, sexy, and thrilling, Keep Her Safe solidifies K.A. Tucker’s reputation as one of today’s most talented new voices in romantic suspense.
MY REVIEW:
‘Keep Her Safe’ is a very intricate police procedural story with a light smattering of romance. This story is perfect for fans of crime dramas and crime/mysteries. Everyone, it seems, is a suspect.
I lean down to place a kiss on her forehead, and she reaches up, her palm cupping my stubbled jaw in an affectionate gesture.
“I love you so much. Always remember that.”
Noah’s whole life changes one fateful night. His mother is the Austin Police Chief and it seems she has been harboring secrets for decades. Noah must find out what happened to the people affected by his mother’s actions many years before and so sets out to make things right if he can.
The story is told in flashbacks which leads to a slowly-building feeling of doom and suspense. Noah is reunited with his childhood friend Gracie and together they begin to search for the truth about what really happened years before that affected so many lives.
“When was the last time I trusted anyone the way I seem to trust Noah almost instinctively, no matter how many times he’s given me reason not to? I never have. Because I’ve never met a guy like him.”
This book started off a little slow for me but I actually enjoyed the story and the relationship between Noah and Gracie. The mystery is very well-thought out and the Texas setting was perfect. I also liked the multiple POV’s, which added to the depth and mystery of the story. I adore K.A. Tucker’s writing and will continue to read her books but this one didn’t click as much with me as her other stories did.
If you are a fan of small-town romance and crime dramas, then you will love this story. I was rooting for Noah and Gracie and was thrilled that in the end, good triumphed over evil. And nothing is as it seems!
