SYNOPSIS:

She’s totally off limits, but this rocker wants a taste…
Jamison Matthews has lusted after Ryder Montgomery since she was a preteen. But now that Ryder and her brother’s band, Shaken Dirty, has made it huge, she’s just one of many pining for the brooding lead singer. Too bad Ryder still sees her as a little sister. Not that it matters. Her brother would never allow it, and the last thing Jamison wants is to be another notch on a rock star’s bed post. Even if it’s Ryder’s.
Ryder doesn’t deserve happiness. After his fame destroyed his last girlfriend, he swore he’d never fall in love again. So when Jamison, the girl he’s been in danger of loving for years, joins the band on the road, he’ll do anything to deny the sparks between them—even after one hot night together. But Jamison is determined to show Ryder that he’s worthy of love—her love—and that she’s all grown up…and ready to play.

EXCERPT:

Onstage, the band launched into “Awake,” one of the power ballads that had made them famous. The crowd screamed their approval and so did she. Totally not her typical modus operandi, but she couldn’t help it. Something about listening to Ryder croon the darkly haunting lyrics had her knees trembling and her heart beating much too quickly. If she closed her eyes, she could do what all the other women in the audience were doing and pretend that he was singing straight to her.
So much better than remembering he’d written these heartfelt words for another woman. For Carrie, who had killed herself and broken his heart so many years before. Her own heart ached at the thought. For him. Always for him. At twenty-nine, Ryder had already been through more darkness and despair than any one person should have to handle.
“Awake” finally came to a close, the last note hanging in the air for long, tension-fueled seconds. Then the band fell silent and the audience did the same, as if they were all holding their breaths. Ryder lowered his guitar, shuffled, and stamped his feet once, twice. It was a familiar gesture, one years of experience had taught her was his way of shaking off excess emotion. Again her heart twisted. It devastated her that more than ten years after the fact he was still eaten up by what had happened. Still determined to bury it under a bunch of layers that not only insulated him from his pain but also hid the real Ryder so deep inside the public Ryder that she wondered sometimes if he even existed anymore. Or if the boy who had held her while she cried, who had let her whisper her pre-adolescent fears without ever making fun of her, had disappeared forever.
She searched for him in that one endless moment.
Looked for him in the obsidian eyes that arrowed to the heart of the crowd even as they barricaded his own emotions.
Combed through her own memories and expectations in an effort to see Ryder as he really was instead of how he portrayed himself.
And when his eyes—his crazy, beautiful eyes—met hers, she found him. Seconds passed, long, intense seconds where she lost the ability to hear or breathe or even think. All she could do was look into Ryder’s eyes, at the feral heat boiling up and out of them, and want.
She smiled at him, waved. He snarled back. But it wasn’t a leave-me-alone snarl. No, definitely not. It was his I-want-to-fuck-you-up-against-a-wall snarl—she knew it well, had seen it directed at a lot of women through the years—and her knees gave way when she realized that this time, finally, it was directed at her. It didn’t matter that there was no sign of recognition in his eyes, no knowledge that the woman he was looking at like that was actually her. Jamison. For one moment, he wanted her the way she’d always wanted him.
It was more than enough.

Title: Pulling Me Under

Author: Rebecca Berto
Series: Pulling Me Under #1
Genre: Women’s Fiction, Suspense
Age Group: Adult
Cover Designed by: Berto Designs

Book description:

Paul was Katie’s rock for thirteen years, but then she watched him die.

By day, she is left with her daughter Ella’s questions about where Daddy went, and at night she’s consumed with nightmares of the moment he died. It isn’t long before Katie’s mother hints that her volatile lifestyle and developing drinking habits are no way to raise a little girl.

Through it all, her and Paul’s best friend, Liam is there. Grieving the death of both husband and friend, the time they spend together seems more intimate these days, and Katie soon stumbles into taboo territory: Liam might be in love with her.

Torn between Liam’s feelings and losing Ella, one night Katie runs.

Air. Space. Thinking time. That’s what she thinks she’s getting when she stumbles upon that party. In the morning, in a strange bed, she can’t remember the night before.

Pulling Me Under is raw in its brutality of love and pain, with slow-building suspense to a heart-stopping conclusion.

Excerpt!

I wake up in my bathtub.

Liam is by my side. His arms are tense from holding his weight over the rim. When he exhales, I suck in warm air. His air.

He sees me wake and falls back against the tiled wall behind him, lacing his fingers as a barrier between the wall and his head. Crunch. He doesn’t react when he hits the wall, as if his hands haven’t protected his skull. Not even a flinch.

Thankfully, his eyes are closed, which makes me feel less self-conscious. I mean, I don’t remember a period of time without him—my kinder years, primary, secondary school—but it’s easier to think without scrutiny.

I’m not sure how long it takes, but soon enough I see he’s wearing the blue hoodie. Did he really leave it here or did he put it on . . . to rub something in? His jeans are the worn ones, the ones where his knee pokes through one pant leg. Smirking, I notice he’s still wearing Ella’s Mickey Mouse watch. The one she insisted he use.

I try to form a memory but all I see are lined-up red plastic cups and me smashing them along a line with the ball of my heel. That’s all that comes to me. As I hit this memory, Liam opens his eyes. He’s breathing heavily, but what worries me are those blue eyes because they seem too wide. Those eyes have seen too much.

“Wha—” I clear my throat and taste something acidic, half-digested that makes my voice sound like a gurgle. I rinse out two cupfuls of water before I gulp down another two cupfuls. It’s only after the eagerness to wash out the vomit that I realize I have my boy shorts on and one of Paul’s business shirts.

And that’s it.

“What happened?” I say to Liam anyway, because I can’t very well ask “Why am I half-naked?” I’m lucky my body is thin enough to hide in this shirt. It would have been a different story otherwise.

He sits up and searches my face for a long time. His gaze is so still that a shiver runs down my spine. “Seems you had a party, you did.”

I’m suddenly self-conscious about my gaping shirt. I pull my ankles by my side and the ends of my shirt as tight around my chest as they will go. “Was this your idea?”
Liam points to my shirt—Paul’s shirt—and suppresses a scoff. “Nah, man. I came here at, ooh,” he checks his watch and clucks, “twelve-forty.”

“And I was . . . ”

“Well and truly partied out. I missed it all. I believe you were passed out and curled up with an empty Johnny Walker bottle.” He points over there. To Ella’s bed. Just as I guessed.

I allow myself to see through the bathroom door, trying to push through the pounding in my head. Ella’s bedroom has her ponies strewn everywhere, in a way she never leaves her precious toys.

The “why” of Liam’s presence occurs after I’ve looked away. I don’t want him seeing me look back to him. I’ve had enough shame for one day.

In Ella’s bedroom there’s the suspect Johnny Walker bottle on the floor. I clench my teeth, pushing away memories, pushing, pushing, until all I think about is running.
Looking at Paul in that picture with cascading curls is worse, though, so I refuse to look at the particular section of the wall. I can’t see happy. I took away happy and I want nothing to do with it now.

I concentrate on keeping my features blank so Liam can’t read any weaknesses. He’s about to suggest I hand Ella over to someone else to for a little while—I can sense it.

I remember that things changed about a week after what happened with Paul. The first week after a sudden, terrible death is open to all sorts of reactions, but for me there’s been a disconnect. The first week, I would stare right at something as plain as a glass, and thinking back now, I can recall from my fixture on that glass I didn’t even know I was doing it. I’d get asked what I was doing that morning and I’d think it was afternoon because, surely, I couldn’t feel that tired and ready to quit the day before midday. I didn’t even know I skipped meals because hours slipped away like soap in a shower, yet my body had never felt heavier to lug around than it did then, during the first week.

The first week has never ended for me.

There are “comforting” lines, like the Do you want to chat about it, Kates? that people repeat.

Well, what do I say to that? I don’t want to talk about it. Okay?

Then I can’t remember much.

What day is it?

What am I doing in my car?

Who am I?

I shouldn’t be surprised. I transformed from a kid, dependent on my mom and dad to being “Paul and Kates”.

Never have I been just me.

RELEASE DAY BLITZ: VEILED (BELIEVE SERIES) by L. CHAPMAN

October 7, 2013

Jenny has always wanted a fairytale life: the perfect house, her own Prince Charming and the wedding to go with it.

After a five year engagement Jenny and her fiance Rich are counting down to the “Big Day”…

And lets not forget one hell of a Hen Party For Jenny her life as the perfect wife is all she has ever wanted but secrets are never far away…

Will Jenny make it to her own fairytale wedding…

All will be revealed in “Veiled”

Come join us at L Chapman’s Veiled release day party all day today
here
Lots of things to win.

***Snippet***

I can’t believe it is only a month away from my big day. I score a line through today’s date on the personalised calendar I received from my friend Megan. She designed the keepsake in my colour scheme of white, black and pink and personalized it with pictures of Rich and me. It is a ‘me’ gift that Megan knew I would love. It is something only she would buy since she loves giving people personalised keepsakes. She knows me so well. The calendar is used solely for the wedding, and it has all my appointments written on it.

I only have fifteen days off from my full-time job as a nurse before the wedding.   Due to the fact I’m organised, every one of those days has plans. I just can’t wait. I’m finally going to have the fairytale wedding I have always wanted. I have dreamed of this special day since I was a child. When I was little, I received a book for my dream wedding, and I used to cut out little pictures of items that I wanted and wished for. We are getting married in a church, a big old-fashioned church followed by a reception in a castle. A real castle. A big do, like what I have always imagined. It’s supposed to be our day and I want us to be the centre of attention. I think Rich would be happy just getting married in a registry office with two strangers as witnesses. He is only going along with the big wedding for my sake. As soon as I began working as a paper girl at thirteen, I started saving for my dream day. Even though it is considered tradition, I didn’t want to rely on my parents to pay for everything. I want it to be perfect with my own personal touch since I plan to marry only one time.

My mum and dad met when they were eighteen and have been together for twenty-nine years. They have three children, Samantha, my older pain in the arse sister, Martin, my baby brother, and me. Martin passed away three days after he turned six. He accidentally ran out in front of a car to get his ball. Just thinking of him makes me tear up. My only brother killed because of a ball.

Thankfully, the doctors say he died straight away so he wasn’t aware of what was happening. But I’m aware.  I remember it all too well and now wish we had not been there. It was my fault; I wanted to play at the park that day. If I had not asked to go, he would never have been there. He would still be alive. I saw everything, but wish I hadn’t. I remember the car— the colour, make, model.Everything about that day.  It was like watching a film when everything happens in slow motion. Mum ran after Martin to stop him, but she couldn’t get there in time. Understandably, she’s never gotten over losing him. She was diagnosed with severe depression and admitted to the hospital after his death. Martin was a very bright lad with a heart of gold, he loved football, and he wanted to be a science teacher when he grew up. I wish he could be here to help me on my big day and to be one of Rich’s ushers.

My older sister is the complete opposite of me. Samantha has a very kind heart, but she can be a pain at times.  She will help you do anything as long as it’s done her way and convenient for her. The only feature we share is eye colour that changes to a darker colour when we get angry. Samantha has shoulder-length brown hair while I have blonde hair. Even with only two years separating us, she looks nothing like me. If one more person tells me we look alike, I will cry. We are two different people.

Two years ago everything changed for the remaining members of the Seattle rock band Tempest.
Two years is a long time.
Too long to keep on remembering.
Not nearly long enough to forget.
In trouble with nowhere else to go songstress Lace Lowell seeks refuge with the band during their stop in New York City. It’s a risky move for her because they are both there, two impossibly good looking men whose lives are inseparably entwined with hers. One who bruised her heart and one who smashed it into pieces.
Warren “War” Jinkins, the mercurial lead singer of Tempest, has always had a thing for Lace. But then again so does his best friend and band mate.
Bryan “Bullet” Jackson, the sinfully handsome tat-sleeved lead guitarist, has a bad boy reputation befitting his nickname. For the past two years Bullet’s had a rule with the groupies: one time, never twice, leave ‘em satisfied, but always leave ‘em.
Two guys, one woman, and a host of dark secrets all together within the tight confines of a tour bus as the group travels cross country.
Can the past be forgotten and buried?
Will friendships prevail?
Or will the three of them succumb to seductive impulses too addictive to resist?

** Irresistible Refrain is a gritty rock and roll tale intended for mature readers seventeen and up. Contains sexual situations, strong language, and drug use. **

*** TEASER ***

“Holy shit!” Lace exclaimed after War let out the last primal yell. “Why didn’t you guys do that one in New York? It sounds even better live than it does on the recording.” She stood, smoothing the wrinkles from her black tunic top, and walked over to me, gesturing at my Les Paul. “How the hell do you do that?”
“Bullet’s pretty fast with his fingers.” Sager chuckled.
“Ah, so that’s how you got the nickname.” Lace smiled. “Faster than a bullet on the frets, huh?”
“Uh, sort of.” King shoved Sager. “Even faster to get a woman off. One time he even…”
“Shut it.” I cut in and glared at King.
Lace’s smile warbled, but she managed to right it.
“What?” King shrugged. “It’s Lace. It ain’t like she never heard that shit before.”

Title: Losing Virginity

By Ava Michaels

Release Date: September 18, 2013

Goodreads

Synopsis:

Olivia Spurgeon has been a good girl her entire life. Her friends have called her Spurgeon the Virgin since 9th grade. Why? Because everyone in her group of friends had already lost their virginity by then. Over the past four years it has been like a foreign object attached to her and even named it something simple.

Virginity.

Now, she’s a freshman in college and still hasn’t done the deed. All three of her roommates do not have Virginity attached to them and they aren’t scared to show it off. Olivia is jealous. She wants what they are having, feeling. One day she finally decides that she doesn’t want Virginity attached to her anymore and begins the journey of shedding it.

Excerpt:

Victorian women had a complex system of sending courtship signals with their fans. If she was available, she would fan quicker, and if she was taken she would fan slower. If her fan rested on her left cheek, then she was not that into you. If it was on her right cheek then you were in. Whoever got rid of the fan thing? That sounded great to me! I’ve been borrowing my courtship rituals from Victorian England and sending the slightest, tiniest, most miniscule signals to guys that I was interested. I was assuming that boys could understand a complex system of unspoken language. It wasn’t me after all. It was them!
I needed to be more obvious about my signals, it was as simple as that.
In Finland, girls who were ready to marry would wear an empty sheath around their waists. When a guy wanted to date the girl, he would either make or buy a knife and put it in her sheath.
Tell me it doesn’t get any more obvious than that. Maybe I should just walk up to the next boy I want wearing a sheath. Would he get it then? Somehow I doubted it.
If the woman wasn’t interested in the man, she would give the knife back, but if she wanted to marry him she would keep it. Women in those cooler climates always carried knives around.
I resolved that I was going to drop the fan and go for the knife. It’s time I made a sheath.

FACTS ABOUT OFF COURSE
By Sawyer Bennett

image

Some of you may know, but I’m an attorney. I got the name Renner from one of the attorneys that was opposing us on a case. I’d never heard that name before and thought it was beautiful and strong. I vowed I’d use it in a story one day.
My cover model, Alex Johnson, who represents Cillian O’Bradaigh, had two amazing tattoos on the inside of his wrists that say “Love” and “Hope”. I decided to write those into the book and we got an amazing promotional shot showcasing the tats.
The Hibernian Pub in the book is modeled after a local Irish bar we have here in Raleigh, North Carolina by the same name. It’s owned by a Dubliner and I promised to use the name in the book in exchange for him letting us do the cover photo shoot there.
When I set out to write this book, I wanted to create the most villainous agitator to date. I think I did that with Maeve. She makes Ryan and Emily’s mom look like a saint, but sadly, she does have some of her own demons that make her that way. Sometimes you will hate her, and you may feel sorry for her on occasion. But then you’ll want to slap her again.
I had fun throwing in some classic Dublin/Irish slang into the book. Words like “Howeya”, “Eejit”, “Gobshite” and “Bollocks” are not typos!
Cillian and Renner are classic opposites. Throw into the mix that Cillian is a controlling Alpha, Renner is an independent woman, and watch the sparks fly everywhere.
You will not get to see many of the other Off characters in this book. Nix makes a hilarious appearance at the end, and you get to meet Renner’s brother, Flynn, who will star in the 5th and probably last book entitled Off Chance. You will get a lot of details on all of the characters in Off Chance though, and their HEA’s will be fully explored.

Excerpt

I glance at my watch for like the tenth time in the last five minutes and impatiently tap my foot. Where are they? They should have been here over half an hour ago.
“Dude… stop looking at your watch. They’ll be here.”
I shoot a fuck-off look to Sean, and he just grins back at me. We got to O’Shea’s a bit early to get a good table. We managed to snag a tall one that is designed to stand around and it’s pretty close to the stage. Cady, Renner, and Teagan said they would meet us here, and glancing at my watch again, I note they are now thirty-seven minutes late.
I’m thankful that my “disguise” is working tonight. I have a baseball cap covering my hair and I shaved before I came out, which makes me look about five years younger. Adding on my glasses, I don’t think I’m too recognizable and only a few people have come up to talk to me or ask for an autograph.
Sean is another matter. No disguise can hide that he is Sean Lundie, drummer for OTE. I can only assume no one comes up to him because he looks scary as shit.
“Holy. Fuck,” Sean says with awe.
I look at him briefly, and see his gaze is on the door. I turn around, and holy fuck is right. Teagan just walked in and she’s wearing a black leather bustier with mounds of boobs spilling over the top, black satin pants that I’m pretty sure were painted on her, and heels that have to be at least five inches tall. She has her hair pulled back severely in a bun and her lips are painted bright red. Every man in the pub turns to watch her walk our way.
My eyes flick over her briefly and I see Cady right behind her. She looks pretty in a blood red dress that’s probably hugging her a little too tight for my approval, but then, Cady’s like a little sister and I don’t like to think about her flaunting her stuff. My eyes search, and they land on Renner, bringing up the rear.
HOLY! FUCK! She looks gorgeous, and I know I won’t spare another glance at Teagan in her dominatrix outfit for the rest of the night.
Her hair is flowing down her back with locks of it resting over her shoulders. It’s so shiny, that it glimmers in the dim lighting. She’s wearing a black miniskirt that doesn’t ride too high but is hugging her ass like a second skin. She has on a silver halter-top that is cut low and looks like it’s tied around her neck with dental floss. Her feet are encased in silver sandals that are sporting a heel as high as Teagan’s.
I seriously don’t think I’ve seen anyone as hot as she looks right now. Visions of me hiking that skirt up to see what lies underneath flood my brain. I’m betting black lace, and I know it would look amazing against that creamy skin.
Teagan reaches us first and blows me a kiss. Then she squeals when she sees Sean and rushes right by me to give him a hug. I often wondered if those two had ever hooked up in the past, but I never asked. None of my business really.
Bending over, I give Cady a quick hug, looking over her shoulder at Renner. She holds my glance, even as I slowly slide my eyes down her body and back up again. By the time I make it back to her face, her cheeks are flushed.
I release Cady and step toward Renner, intent on giving her what would look like a friendly hug to the rest of the group. She’s surprised when I wrap my arms around her, in a brotherly fashion, because I know Cady’s probably watching. I may not be able to cop much of a feel right now, but I use the opportunity to lean in close to her ear. “God help me, Ren. You look like a goddess.”

His return proves he is the same man, yet Elle sees in his eyes a haunted look she knows all too well.

Excerpt:

Shay
“And how about you?” he asks, quirking an eyebrow. “It’s not like your life was easy after-”
I see where he’s going now. “Gonna have to shut you down there, bro. I don’t talk about it.”
He sighs loudly. “If there is one thing I learned inside, Shay, it’s that you have to face the demons to find even the smallest amount of peace in your life.”
Who is this man, and what has it done with the asshole that used to be Devon Michael Evans?
“Yeah. Well, don’t think I’ll ever find peace with that until I’m six feet under.”
“I had an awesome counselor inside. He helped me deal with my mom’s suicide, and with how my father betrayed both of us. The one thing he told me that has stuck with me is a quote from Buddha. ‘Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without’.”
“Motherfucker. Prison has turned Devon into a believer,” I spit out in shock. Who would have thought that he could go inside and come out three years later a changed man without a chip on his shoulder.
“Ha ha. Smart ass. You’re a funny fuck, you know that? No, I’m not a born again. I just realized that holding onto stuff from your past will tear you apart. It’s the reason I took my mother’s name instead of Evans when I got out.”
I nod in agreement. “I noticed that.”
“It’s not a bad thing to put some distance from that man after what he did,” he murmurs before leaning over and turning the radio up. “Love this song.”

Having always loved reading, and having been befriended and inspired by some awesome self published authors and book lovers alike, I decided to start writing my first novel, Lost in Distraction in December 2012. It was a conscious decision that started with a song, then the prologue and then catapulted from there. I love music too, like REALLY love music, if there isn’t music playing, something is wrong. Out and Proud Vampire Diaries fan as well.

I’m also a wife, mother, full-time university student and I do contract work for myself from home.

BLURB:

Danika hasn’t had an easy life. Being insanely attracted to bad boys has never helped make it easier.

One look at Tristan, and every brain cell she possessed went up in smoke. This man was trouble with a capital T. It was a given.

She knew better. Bad boys were bad. Especially for her. Considering her history, it was crazy to think otherwise. So why did crazy have to feel so damn fine?

For as long as she could remember, Danika had been focused on the future with single-minded purpose. Tristan came along and taught her everything there was to know about letting go, and living in the present. She fell, hard and deep. Of course, that only made her impact with the ground that much more devastating.

EXTENDED TEASER – “THE FRIENDS DON’T LIST”

“I have an idea,” Tristan said, moving around the kitchen counter, and into the dining room.
He opened up a drawer of the desk that ran along the far wall.
“That sounds ominous,” I said, following him.
“On a scale of one to ten, how much do you like the last guy that you slept with?” Tristan asked me with an arched brow and a crooked smile, flashing those dimples at me. He used those things like a weapon.
“My ex? Negative five, since I’m feeling mellow right now,” I said instantly.
He nodded. “Exactly. The last girl I hooked up with threw a drink at another chick for smiling at me, and the one before that started nagging me about my drinking after we’d hooked up one time. Sex turns women into nagging psychos, and it turns men into straight-up assholes. Now, how much do you like me?”
I wrinkled my nose at him. “Right this second? Well, this little speech is kind of annoying but I do kind of like you most of the time. I’ll give you a solid five.”
He just grinned, not at all offended. I don’t think he would have known what to do with me if I wasn’t giving him shit. “Well, I give you a ten, which averages our friendship out to a solid seven, making you one of my favorite people of all time. I’d like to maintain our average, so I say we make a list.”
He had actually gotten a pen and paper out, and I made sure he saw me roll my eyes.
His grin just widened. “That’s what I love most about you. I never have to wonder what you’re thinking. It’s all right there on your lovely face.”
My scowl just deepened as I saw what he was writing.

‘THE FRIENDS DON’T LIST’ –
Because I like you too much to sleep with you

I sighed loudly. “What is the point of this? We don’t need to write it down.”
He straightened, giving me a look that made things low in my body clench in the most delicious way. His gaze was borderline obscene as he eyed me, top to bottom.
He swallowed hard. “I need to. God, Danika, even your feet are fucking sexy to me, and I like you too fucking much to screw it up. I want to be around you. I’d be sad if you we didn’t see each other anymore, and I’m batting zero at the relationship thing. I’m a good friend, though, so yeah, I need a real clear ‘don’t’ list, so I don’t screw it up.”
I smirked at him. “My feet, huh? My feet are really that sexy? You crazy horn-dog.”
I didn’t want a relationship with him, either. I knew that it would mean the end of us as friends, but knowing that he found me that sexy made me warm all over. It didn’t make me feel dirty to have him look at me like that, it made me feel special. It was a novelty for me, to be sure.
He laughed and nodded, giving me really good eye contact. “Yes. It’s a problem. I’m a man-whore, and you would tempt a saint. Let’s find a way to keep our friendship safe.”
I liked that, liked that he valued my company more than my body. I nodded, finally giving him smile for smile. “Yes. That makes sense. Sex isn’t worth it anyway. It never leaves me with anything but a need for a date with my vibrator, and that’s if I’m lucky.”
He groaned and slapped his forehead. “I need to get that image out of my head. That was cruel. Do you mean that your last boyfriend didn’t make sure you got off?” He asked the question like he just couldn’t help himself. I knew him well enough to know that he couldn’t.
I laughed, trying not to make it sound as bitter as it actually was. “No. I’m saying that none of them did. They couldn’t find a clit with a map. Selfish pricks.”
He ran a hand over his face, and it went a little slack before he looked at me again. “That hurts me deep in my soul, Danika. I wouldn’t do that to you. I’d make sure you came, first and last. I’d go down on you every time, if that’s what you like. I’d lick—“
I held up a hand, giving him an arch look, though I was far from unaffected by his little speech. I wanted badly to see if he was really that good, but I shook myself out of it.
He grimaced. “Sorry, sorry. That was out of line. You can’t tell me stuff like that. It makes me want to punch somebody and, well, do things to you that do not need to be spoken out loud. But it does prove my point about me needing a ‘don’t’ list.”
I nodded. It was becoming apparent that we both needed one. “Yes. Don’t you worry about poor old me. I like my vibrator just fine. Better than any cock that’s ever come near me, in fact.”
He closed his eyes, lowered his head, and held up one finger as though he needed a moment.
I giggled, because I had been trying to torment him, and I saw by the oversized bulge in his jeans that I’d succeeded.
I snapped my fingers at him. “Okay, okay, let’s get on with it. Get started with your list.”

1. No sex, no making out, no kissing.

“No getting off and thinking about you?” I asked. Yes, I was trying to torment him.
He held up that finger that made me giggle again. He looked like he was thinking hard for a long moment, finally shaking his head. “Nope. Can’t do that. Sorry. It’s like saying I won’t get hard when I see you wearing a bikini. It would just be a lie. But I won’t torture you with the details, I swear.”
I nodded, still smiling. Teasing just never got old with him. He made it so much fun. He made absolutely everything fun. “The same,” I told him. “I’ll try not to be too loud when I cry out your name as I get myself off.”
He shook his head, looking pained. “So jacked up,” he muttered under his breath.
After a long pause, he started writing again without another word.

2. No getting jealous or complaining about who the other one is dating or hooking up with.

“That goes for you too, right?” I asked archly. “No hitting guys in bars for looking at me funny.”
“I didn’t hit him. I just choked him a little.”
“Um, yeah, that sounds worse than punching. Not helping your argument.”
He completely ignored that, writing.

3. We can hang out whenever we want, but we won’t call it a date, even if we’re doing date-like things

“Would oral be considered date-like?” I asked, just messing with him, as usual. I’d never been able to have sexual banter with a man that didn’t end up making me feel like shit. It was just the opposite with Tristan. For some reason, it made me feel warm and fuzzy every time.
He sent me a twisted grin. “I’m pretty sure that would be breaking the no kissing rule.”
“Pretty sure leaves wiggle room.”
He gave me a look that could only be described as longing. “I do love the way you wiggle.”
I giggled.
He went back to writing.

4. No nagging.

“That counts for you, too. No telling me when I’ve had too many shots. That’s for me to decide.”
He sent me an exasperated look. “Well, if you drink enough shots that you climb on the bar to dance, and some guy grabs you, don’t nag me for beating the shit out of him.”
“That sounds like a clear violation of rule number,” I pointed out.
“That’s not jealousy. That’s me being protective of my buddy.”
I rolled my eyes. It was a fine line.
He started writing again.

5. Always remember that we like each other too much to sleep together, and that sleeping together will ruin EVERYTHING.

6. If the words ‘I love you’ are ever mentioned, it will be assumed that it is in a friendship type context.

7. No talking dirty, or talking about dates with your vibrator.

He sighed, immediately crossing #7 out.

7. No talking dirty, or talking about dates with your vibrator.

“That one is just no fun at all,” he explained.
I giggled. Only Tristan could make me giggle.
He sent me a warm smile.
“I named my vibrator after you,” I told him with a smirk. “He’s small, but he makes up for it by working hard.”
He straightened, moving a little close to show me just how small he wasn’t. I backed up to the edge of the table, and he followed.
He gave me his sinful smile. “I’m big like this everywhere. Don’t make me prove it to you.”
I rolled my eyes. “Every guy says that. It would be refreshing to meet a guy that just admitted to being average-sized, or God forbid, small.”
He shook his head. “You want me to do something crazy. I see your game now. Not falling for it.”
I couldn’t hold back a smile, because I had been egging him on. The man was so outrageous, he’d do anything on a dare. I shrugged. “I’ll never know, but in my imagination it’s very clearly average, bordering on small. No way to change it.”
He pursed his lips, his fingers going to the button on his jeans.
I slapped my hands over my eyes, running away and giggling like a kid.
He overtook me in seconds, picking me up easily. He flung me over his shoulder, heading to the back door.
I knew where this was leading.
“Put me down!” I screeched between giggles. “I just washed my hair!”
“Every time you make me want to pull my dick out for you, for any reason, I’m throwing you in the pool. This is for the sake of our friendship, Danika.”
I was already flying through the air before he’d finished talking. I heard him say Danika right before my head went under.
The bastard. A quote from Danika not long after…
“It wasn’t a don’t list, you douche bag! It may as well have been a fucking to-do list!”
