EXCERPT:

After a while of sitting in the room surrounded by everyone at the baby shower, I start to feel overwhelmed, but I’m ready to tone this get-together down and soak in a long, hot bath.

Two more hours drag by and everyone has left except for Natalie, who finds me soaking in that much-needed bath, surrounded by frothy bubbles.

“Cam?” I hear Natalie’s voice on the other side of the bathroom door. She knocks softly a few times.

“Come on in,” I say.

The door creeps open and Natalie peeks around the side. Wouldn’t be the first time she saw me naked.

She sits on the closed toilet lid.

“Well, it’s official,” she says, grinning down at me, “pregnancy does make the boobs bigger.”

As always, she’s exaggerating.

I raise my hand from the water and flick droplets at her.

“Are you feeling all right?” she asks, toning down the jokes. “You look exhausted.”

“I’m pregnant,” I say flatly.

“True, but Cam, you look like shit.”

“Thanks.” I reach back, readjust the clip I put in my hair to keep it from getting wet, then relax my arm along the side of the tub.

“Well, aren’t you supposed to be glowing? That’s what they say pregnant women do.”

I shrug and shake my head against the back of the tub.

I get out of the tub and wrap a towel around my body before hugging Natalie good-bye.

Then I lie across my bed, remembering how comfortable it was. But I don’t miss this room so much, or feel any sense of longing to get back into my old life. No. The “old life” I still want to avoid, and this is the number one reason I’ve been so divided about whether to come home or not. I’ve missed my mom and Natalie, and I admit that I’ve just missed North Carolina. But I don’t miss it in the way that makes me want to end right back up here doing the same things I was doing before. I ran away from that lifestyle for a reason, and I’m not about to run right back to it.

I decide to stay here and go to bed early. I feel overly exhausted, as if my body is being drained of energy faster than normal.

Andrew crawls into the bed with me and lies on his side, his head propped on his knuckles. “I feel like I’m doing something I shouldn’t, being up here in your childhood room with you like this.” He grins.

I smile slimly and bury my body deeper underneath the blanket. It’s only a little chilly outside, but I’m freezing. I pull the blanket up to my chin, curling my fingers tight around the fuzzy fabric.

“If my dad was here,” I say, chuckling, “you’d be in Cole’s room.”

He moves closer to me and drapes his arm over my waist…

Author Bio:

Kristen_Ashley[1]

Kristen Ashley grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana, and has lived in Denver, Colorado, and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multigenerational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland, and Kristen grew up listening to the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon, and Whitesnake.

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

EXCERPT:

When I saw who was outside, my mouth dropped open.
Luckily, the doorbell buzzing stopped.
Unluckily, the last person on earth I wanted to see was standing outside my door.
“Jesus, you don’t have a peephole?” Ham growled, looking incensed and Graham Reece looking, or worse, being incensed was a very bad thing. I’d learned that five months ago.
I didn’t have it in me to concern myself with Ham being incensed. I was more concerned with him being there at all.
To express this, I asked, “What the hell?”
“Open the fuckin’ door, Zara.”
I stared a beat, then pulled myself together.
This was not happening.
We were done.
I pushed the door closed.
The problem with this was it didn’t work, seeing as the toe of Ham’s boot was wedged between it and the jamb.
“Open the door, Zara,” he repeated.
“We’re done,” I told him through the gap in the door. “Move your foot.”
“Open the door.”
“We’re done, Ham,” I snapped.
“Right, then move back.”
“What?”
He didn’t repeat his order. He moved his foot but only so he could rear back and plant his shoulder in the door.
The chain popped right open, as did the door, and I went flying.
I righted myself as Ham, now in my apartment, slammed the door.
“You’re payin’ for that!” I yelled.
His eyes were beyond me, examining my new space as his mouth moved.
“Not a problem. I’ll reimburse what they take out of your security deposit when we move you out of this dump.”
I didn’t know what he meant and I also didn’t care.
I switched subjects.
“How did you get here so fast?” I asked, and his eyes finally came to me.
“I hope to Christ you didn’t miss local gossip because you’re spendin’ your days at Deluxe Home Store and your nights at some titty bar.”
“I’m not working at a titty bar, Ham, so you can stop concerning yourself with me and move on”—I paused—“again.” I bit off the last word then what he said penetrated and I asked, “What gossip?”
“Managing The Dog, Zara, have been for a week. I live in Gnaw Bone.”
I felt my eyes get huge as my stomach clenched.
“You’re managing The Dog?” I whispered, aghast.
“Yeah. And you just got a new job. You start after you work out your notice at Deluxe,” he returned.
“What?” This also came out quiet and horrified.
“You’re waitressin’ for me. Shit hours but, if I remember correctly and since the view hasn’t changed except to get better, with your face, tits, and ass, great tips. In the meantime, we’re movin’ you out of this shithole and, you don’t got a girl who can take you on, you’re bunkin’ with me.”
Bunking with him?
Was he high?
“I am not moving in with you,” I declared.

IF ONLY –

Callie
What’s a girl to do when she meets a man who claims the heart that she’s already given to someone else? My boyfriend is everything I’ve ever wanted, he’s perfect, but when I met Joe … I can’t even describe the intensity of my attraction to him. I’d never experienced anything like it before. Since then, it’s become something so much deeper and I’m finding it impossible to ignore what I feel for him. I know I’m already with the man I should be with, yet I want Joe. I can’t seem to get my head and my heart to agree on this. I’m not about to cheat and I won’t just drop the man I love. But what do I do about Joe?

Joe
Tattoos, bikes and women – that’s been my life for the last two years and it suited me just fine. Until the day I swerved to avoid a raggedy old VW Bug heading my way, hit the sidewalk, and ended up sprawled on my back. I came around to a pounding headache and the most gorgeous girl I’ve ever seen. Don’t know if it was the effect she had on me, or the accident, but I somehow managed to let her go without exchanging information, more importantly numbers. Maybe it would’ve been better if things had stayed that way. Maybe then I wouldn’t be caught up in this dilemma. I should do what most guys would do and pursue her, regardless of her being in a relationship. Trust me, it’s tempting. The problem is, I’ve been on the receiving end of a situation similar to this, so I know the hurt I could cause and I don’t think I can do that. But I want Callie. I want her bad.

When Callie and Joe met, neither were prepared for the sequence of events that would follow, or the impact of the choices they would go on to make.

If only is book one in the Captured series. Adult Contemporary Romance. This series is not intended for those below 18 years old due to graphic sexual content and use of language.

RELEASE –

Brooklyn
I knew from the start that I should stay away from Dane, and I would have – if he’d stayed away from me. Astoundingly sexy with a consuming presence of unspoken command, he enthralls me to the point of almost being incapable of rational thoughts, almost being incapable of resisting him. My hands want to explore him. My tongue wants to taste him. My body begs to experience him. I crave him. Now he’s starting to intrude on a level that’s harder to fight. I know what he wants from me. I also know that Dane is not the type of man you expect to keep.

Dane
Things are never straightforward with women like Brooklyn. She’s not the kind whose bed you can slip out of and walk away from without ‘special connections’ or ‘emotions’ expected or offered. She’s the type of woman I prefer to keep my distance from, but like an undersexed, hormonal idiot, I still pursued her. I swear getting turned on by her is like getting turned on for the first time in my life. Now I have her in my grasp, but I know where this will lead. And I’m never the one that gets hurt in situations like this.

A woman who has barely put her broken-self back together and a man who turned his back on love a long time ago. When Dane and Brooklyn first met it appeared to be a simple case of lust between two opposites, but it was the beginning of an intense, emotional journey that would bring forth the pain they both attempted to leave in their pasts, and an encapsulation of feelings neither welcomed but were powerless to stop. Sometimes in life there is no choice but to take a risk.

*Release takes place in the months leading up to the end of If Only (book one in the Captured series), and includes major spoilers from Joe and Callie’s story.

*This book contains graphic sexual content.

Bio:

Louise J has always been a daydreamer, but never considered writing a novel until days before typing the first words to If Only. Joe and Callie (and Gerard) appeared in a dream and her mind has never been her own since then, and she’s never alone. When she’s not writing she spends a lot of time missing out on huge chunks of conversation, movies, and TV shows thanks to many wonderful, but highly invasive characters bouncing around in her head, showing her their stories. In the name of research, those fabulous characters have led her to parts of the world she never would have dreamed of, and, as a result, has gained some of the most amazing memories. The rest of the time Louise J is trying to be a good wife to the greatest husband she could ever have asked for.

If Only excerpt

Callie
I twist my upper body around and watch him pull out some white latex gloves. Oh, shit. For some reason, it only just hits me.
He is going to see me topless.
Abruptly, I turn to the front and stare at Su, wide-eyed. Nick is the only man who has ever seen my tits. Ryan felt them, but he never saw them, so that doesn’t count. And he was my boyfriend at the time. Maybe the nerves of getting the piercings done stopped the recognition of this factor when I first learned this guy was doing them, but right now, with it so close to happening, that realization has my gut twisting.
I point to my breasts and mouth the words I just thought to Su. She winks at me and sort of grins to ease me, but it’s impossible for me to smile back. I need to distract myself. “I don’t know your name. You told me your brother’s, but not yours,” I say, looking, but not looking at the display of photos along the white wall in front of me. I can’t recall what I was told when I booked, my brain won’t work right. The silence in here feels thick, and that’s not helping matters.
“My name is Joe,” he says as he sits down on a chair to the right of me.
Joe. Now I remember. I always wondered what his name was after our almost collision. Joe. I like it.
He wheels himself closer, stopping in front of me. The height of the table puts me above him, so I have to lower my gaze if I want to make eye contact with him. That’s the last thing I want to do. This really wouldn’t be so bad if he wasn’t hot. Why couldn’t I get the older guy who booked me in? Or Adam? He’s cute, too, but I could deal with him.
“Okay. So you want a tattoo as well,” he states, sitting upright with his lightly-fisted hands resting on his thighs, the gloves clutched within his right hand. I wish I could be as relaxed as he is.
I nod, looking level with his perfectly sculpted cheekbones. “Yeah.”
“Do you have in mind what you want, or would you like to see some designs?” I don’t know how, but he’s able to stare me straight in the eyes. Su was right about him being nervous before, but he’s definitely, absolutely not now. Maybe he was a little embarrassed about the almost collision thing.
With effort, I return his gaze as best as I can. Oh, God. My heart starts to gallop, threatening to burst out of my chest.
Those rich coffee beans have been imprinted on my memory since I first saw them. Sitting this near to reality is almost debilitating. There’s a deep tenderness in his stare that warms me, but the intensity of his focus pushes it up to a searing heat. It’s overwhelming, it makes me want to look away, but … I can’t. The brown is so rich with no intrusion of other tones and that only enhances the impact.
I thought my memory of his face was an exaggeration, the exceptional features and planes combining masculinity and beauty, but it’s true and very real. The tone of his skin is closer to olive than fair and appears incredibly smooth. I have an urge to slowly run the tips of my fingers along the lines and contours of his features, medium-thick eyebrows; narrow nose; high, defined cheekbones; softly-chiseled jaw, and then make a sculpture of his head, made to the exact likeness, but I wouldn’t go there, even with my skill, which, bias or not, I credit to be at a high standard. Thinking of this man as hot is easy to conclude, but it’s understated.
Joe is a powerful combination of man, beauty and sex.

Release excerpt

Brooklyn
As I pass the rear of the Volvo, one space away from my car, a smooth voice stops me in my tracks.
“Brooklyn,” is all he said.
He wasn’t calling me. He was simply saying my name, low and curious. Stupidly sexy, too, but let’s not get caught up in that detail.
I know who that voice belongs to. I recognize it from last night.
Correcting my stunned expression, I turn around. Everything sort of … falls out of focus, becomes non-existent. When I stop, barely two feet away, I realize I’ve walked over to him. We’re standing at the boot of my car.
Dane’s hazel eyes are lethally enticing. I can’t do anything but look into the golden brown of his irises, touched with flashes of varying shades of green. I don’t know what to say to him, and he isn’t speaking, he’s just standing there looking at me. I’d like to shrink and disappear.
“I’ve been warned not to talk to you,” I say just to give me something to say. I instantly feel guilty for being such a blabber mouth.
“Kayla told you that.”
Smoothest, sexiest voice I’ve ever heard, and so, so sure. He doesn’t seem to mind what I said. I owe my friend a big apology.
“Apparently, I’m too nice for you. Too nice a girl, that is. Not too good looking for you. Not your usual type.” Now I’m talking shit. My cheeks feel warm, too. Please, don’t let me be blushing.
Dane’s expression is unreadable, but he answers. “That might be true.”
He pauses for one long, powerful moment.
There’s something commanding about him. This is definitely a man who gets exactly what he wants, when he wants, without having to make much effort for it.
“Maybe you are too nice for me, but I’d really like you to be the one who decides that for yourself. You’ve been given a heads up. That gives you an advantage, right?”
Oh, he’s good. What do I say to that? I don’t know. I’m taken aback by his honesty and tempted at the same time.
Tempted by a man I have been firmly warned to stay away from.
Find your brain, Brooklyn, and say “Thanks, but no thanks.”
I still can’t speak.
His lips start to turn up at the corners, but his gaze remains intense.
I still don’t know what to say. It’s been about thirty seconds. Forty, maybe. Suddenly, I burst into laughter and slap my hand over my mouth to shut myself up. Typically in awkward situations, or at times when it’s most inappropriate, I laugh. I hate it, but I can’t help it.
“I’m sorry,” I say, trying to pull back my outburst. “It’s not you, it’s me. I mean, I’m not laughing at you. I really don’t know what to say to you.”
He’s still smiling, no less focused about his stare. “It’s not every day a woman laughs in my face, but I like your laugh.”
I straighten up and curl my arms tighter around myself, still wrapped in my nice warm cardigan, which also feels like a protective barrier. Though I still want to giggle at my ridiculous self, I’m wondering if his complement is genuine or part of the charming process. My friends describe my laugh as loud and dirty, and I’ve never been complemented on it.
“Where do you live?” he asks.
“Where do I live?” I ask back, unable to stop my eyebrows reaching for my hairline. That’s a bit forward, did I hear him correctly?
“Yes.” He looks me straight in the eyes. This guy is unbelievable, he’s serious.
I swallow hard with my now tight throat. “Um, the corner of Sutter and …” Am I really giving up this information? “Franklyn.”
“That’s good. Do you know the Purple Cafe, on Bush Street?”
I nod. I haven’t been in there, but I’ve passed it a couple of times. Maybe I should’ve said no.
“Meet me there for breakfast tomorrow morning. I start work around nine, let’s be there for seven, outside. Think of it as your chance to decide for yourself.”
I’m speechless, again.
Dane turns around and walks away. “See you tomorrow, Brooklyn.”
Standing astonished, all I can do is watch his departure. In motion, he’s even more fascinating. He strides away with a feline grace, that air of command remaining.
I feel a weird temptation to follow him.
What the fuck just happened?

Fun Facts

If I met Callie I’d want to be her, seriously! She’s everything I’d want to be if I wasn’t me. Her quirky style & hotness, her friendly nature, and her confidence are magnetic. She’s tiny in size, but huge in personality and presence. The girl on the cover, at that angle, is an incredible fit to my vision of Callie, and the model’s expression perfectly represents some of Callie’s emotions during If Only. All I had to do was have some minor alterations made, and there she was. That picture isn’t there just because it’s a pretty girl with pink hair; that is my Callie.
If I met Brooklyn I’d be floored by how stunning she is and mesmerized by her talent as a professional dancer, but we’d talk and I’d realize how thoroughly well I connect with her. So much so that writing her was the most natural, effortless thing. Publishing her, and putting her out there for judgment, was, and still is, beyond hard for me. Even after all these months since publishing Release, I question whether I held back at all with her so I could protect her. I don’t think I did hold back, I hope I didn’t, but that only makes me feel more protective of her. The image on the cover wasn’t picked without thought; the model’s physique, the amount of skin on show and the limited light and shadows represent Brooklyn’s sensuality, confidence and vulnerability.
If I met Joe I would literally require restraints to stop me from attempting all kinds of very sexual things on him. *Louise J fans herself* He is so damn beautiful and entirely masculine at the same time; it isn’t an exaggeration when Callie describes him as such. He has the body of a sex god, and I particularly love his taut midsection and hips. That sounds kind of random, but my interest seems to gravitate to that area. Add his incredible ink, and I’m on the floor in a gooey puddle of horny fangirl. He’s traditional in many aspects and has the loveliest heart. I’m crazy about Joe.
If I met Dane I’d be scared. He is hot beyond words, and that’s down to his manner and appearance. Standing too close to him would be impossible, I’d have the urge to run and hide. I wouldn’t be able to look into those amazing hazel eyes; they are so intense, I’d literally fall apart. With the body of a top athlete and the impact of all that ink, he is just astounding. I love him hard! He’s quite an old soul and a tower of strength, even when he’s struggling through his issues. I fell for him every time he spoke during Release.
It doesn’t get better for me than being in a scene where both Joe and Dane are present, regardless of whose POV it is. Just the mention of their names excites me. (I have a secret crush on Adam 😉 So, when he’s there, too, I’m even happier)
There are so many favorite lines and moments that I have in each book, most of them too spoiler-ish, but two (relatively safe lines) include:
‘My heart wants to run, but my legs can just about walk’ – Callie, If Only
‘Crying in front of someone who loves you doesn’t make you vulnerable’ – Dane, Release

Baker Beach in San Francisco features in Release. Brooklyn goes there with her friends, and there’s talk of the nude part near the rocks. When I wrote that scene I had no idea that I would visit Baker Beach and go further than simply seeing a naked guy. Not only did I see some random nude dude on a beach, on a cold day when I was dressed in jeans and a thick cardigan, but the random nude dude offered to take a picture of hubby and me with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background. We posed while a naked man stood taking our picture. Yes, I looked where I shouldn’t have been looking, you would have too. Then, he offered us the chance to have our picture taken with him. So, I have a picture of me and some random nude dude on Baker Beach. I didn’t even get his name.
There’s a point in If Only when Callie drives to and from San Francisco and Arizona. I’ve done that drive – actually, my husband did the thirteen hour drive (with no sleep, so props to him), and I got to completely connect with the emotions Callie felt going to and from Arizona. It was amazing. We even passed a kombi, though it wasn’t groovy like Roberta. You’ll meet Roberta when you read If Only.
A rattlesnake makes an appearance at one point during If Only. I totally stole that from my own life, only, unlike Callie who had the guts to take a picture, I didn’t. I hid in the house while my husband took the shot. Isn’t that what husbands are for?
One song planted the initial tiny seed of an idea that led to If Only; I Never Knew by Roger Sanchez. That one book unintentionally became a four book series. From the series came two standalones. From one of those standalones came the trigger of inspiration for my 2014 paranormal romance series. All this from one song. It’s never ending. What a crazy ride this is?!

You can’t hide from love…even when you want to.

But Kale came to the wrong place at the wrong time, because someone else has his eyes on me. Someone who watches my every move.
Kale’s the only one I want, but the more I feel for him, the more I fear for my safety. Because the other guy is getting closer and doesn’t want to share. He’s made it clear if he can’t have me, no one can.

“You brought me a date?”
“I did,” he said, rocking back on his heels.
I eyed him, then made a show of looking around. “Is he cute?”
The sputtering fish look that crossed his face made me feel better than it should have. He recovered quickly and nodded. “I think he’s rather handsome. Kind of rugged. Blue eyes, dark hair.”

Meet The Author:
Elle Jordan is the mastermind behind all kinds of things that need masterminds. …okay, not really, but she IS the mastermind behind…something. Her name, maybe.
Elle lives in the south, about an hour from the Happiest Place on Earth (aka Disney), drinks enough Mtn. Dew to keep the company in business, and has four lovable (read: evil and conniving) pets. She’s also the secret, evil alter-ego of another name. She’d tell you that other name, but then it wouldn’t be a secret.
When she isn’t writing, she can usually be found on Facebook, Twitter, or with Photoshop open, making covers for books she doesn’t have enough time to write.

“Your hair must be worse than mine,” she giggles, pulling her lips from mine and tugging the thick, messy locks hanging over my shoulders.

I grin. “Yeah.”

“Any reason you keep it long?” she asks, using her fingers to untangle it.

I shrug. “Just always been that way, so I figure it’s just easier to leave it there.”

She continues tugging and pulling, until her fingers are gliding smoothly through it.

“I like it,” she murmurs. “I’d like it even more if I could brush it.”

I snort. “Ain’t gonna happen little darlin’.”

She pouts, and I smirk, flicking her lip. “Don’t pout at me.”

“It’s not un-manly to let a girl brush your hair.”

“No,” I grin. “It’s just outright girly.”

“It’s not!”

“Is.”

She gives me a lazy half smile, and then tugs at my hair again, until our lips are touching. Her stomach grumbles against mine.

“Hungry?” I chuckle.

She nods, stretching and shifting. “Yeah, but I think I need to shower more.”

“You shower, I’ll get food.”

She nods, grinning. “It sounds like a plan.”

I crawl out of her bed, and sit on the side, ready to pull on my jeans when her hand reaches around, and her fingers curl around my soft c**k. It instantly jerks to life, swelling beneath her grips.

Synopsis

Danny and Liv are back…

Danny loves Liv. He knows he loves her more than she loves him because she ran without a word when she saw their future mapped out before her. He knows he will never love anyone like he loved her and this time he doesn’t think he can move on.

Liv loves Danny. She knows she loves him more than he loves her because he broke her heart in the worst possible way, right when things were falling into place. She knows she will never love anyone like she loves him and this time she doesn’t think she can move on.

They needed a second chance because they just weren’t ready for their first, but when events changed everything between them, they discovered they were just human after all. Now Liv and Danny have to find a way to survive being hurt by each other.

Excerpt

Scott is up, dressed and looking particularly chipper when I arrive laden down with groceries.
“Wow! You realise it’s A.M. right?” I rib as I put the groceries down.
“Yeah, yeah,” he dismisses.
“So how are you?” asks Jen with her well-rehearsed tone.
“I’m doing okay,” I say, trying not to brush her off. I know she is worried about me, but I can’t do what she wants me to do. I’m not chasing Liv. Jen has tried cajoling, nagging, yelling and crying. There is only bribery left, but she seems to have risen above that. She wants me to be happy, but she is wrong about how I can achieve that. I should have left the whole thing alone. But I went against my gut and this is the result. I won’t make that mistake again. I’m staying put. Screw Liv.
“Working hard?’ Jen asks, this is more of an accusation.
“Yes,” I say like a sulky teen. “But it’s what I need right now. Anyway, I need the money…I’ve a huge credit card bill to pay.” I joke, referring to the ring. But there is little humor to be found, even when the joke is my own. I sigh. How did I become the guy with two unwanted engagement rings to his name?
Jen doesn’t push further.
“So whose turn is it to cook?” I ask, knowing full well it’s mine, I’m just trying to change the subject. Jen rolls her eyes and sets about making coffee. Scott takes the morning papers over to the table, his usual position. I’ve no idea when he became exempt from cooking, but Jen and I take turns.
I get on with mixing the batter, it’s second nature now, and Jen and I move about the kitchen in perfect sync with one another. I wonder distantly, how I thought it would be easy to give this up and move. I love these guys.
We make Scott do all the donkey work after breakfast; it’s only fair that he cleans up. Jen and I poke fun at him for our own amusement, from where we sit in the garden.
“I’m just not used to seeing him this alert on a Saturday morning,” I tease.
“We went for a walk on the beach this morning,” Jen says with a knowing look. “We had stuff to talk about.”
“And?” I ask, knowing full well the subject they needed to discuss. They have been back and forth all week on this sperm donor thing. I know Jen is terrified, but Scott sees it as no big deal and just wants to get on with it. I really admire the guy; hell, it’s quite a dent in the old masculinity. But as far as he is concerned, it’s just a blip. Any child that is conceived as a result would be his and his alone. Jen has just read one bad example and it has her all in knots. She’s worried that Scott won’t feel connected to the baby and she’ll be left all alone. That just wouldn’t happen.
Scott joins us just then and they smile at each other. “I talked her around,” Scott says, never taking his eyes off Jen as he sits beside her. God, he loves her.
“That’s great!’ I exclaim and put my arms around Jen lifting her slightly out of her chair. “So what happens now?”
“Well…we start looking,” she says with a nervous smile. “It’s a long process and we need a few months to figure out my ovulation issues.”
Okay, here goes. I can’t handle any more rejection this week. “I don’t know the best way to approach this,” I say, looking them in the eye in turn. “But, when you’re ready, I was hoping you would consider me.”

Synopsis:

Dylan had received a peculiar phone call from the governor, leaving me stranded and alone in his magnificent penthouse. The events of the evening draining me free of any energy I had left. I wanted to ask where he was going, but I had a gut feeling I knew the answer to that question. It was his job to clean up a scene before anyone found out the gruesome details of a crime. Then again, I found myself curious, wondering if Dylan himself had manufactured the hit on Amber Martinelli to frame Stefan.
I stepped out onto the terrace overlooking the city. The lights were bright, twinkling as the roar of late night traffic lingered in the air. A cold front was moving in and a slight chill moved through me. Knowing how Dylan felt about me, I knew he would do anything to keep me safe. Committing murder wasn’t beneath him and it was dangerous for me to think that he could be involved in Amber’s.

Excerpt:

I joined Dylan on the bed, straddling him kissing his chest, licking his nipples.  I kissed my way up, whispering “trust” in his ear, then back down his neck to his lips.  He welcomed me in his mouth, my tongue leading, deepening the kiss.  He groaned as I pinched and twisted his nipple between my fingers.  “Fuck,” he groaned into my mouth.  “Not yet baby,” I replied, but soon.

I
REMEMBER YOU

Samantha
pulled up to the pump at the gas station and got out. As she watched the
numbers on the pump, her mind started to wander. She sighed and crossed her
arms as she thought about a few weeks ago when she’d broke up with Jeff, the
guy she’d been seeing for about a year. What’s wrong with me? Jeff was a good
guy. He was good looking and a successful lawyer. He treated her like a queen.
Most girls would kill to date a guy like him. She didn’t feel anything with him
– no passion or excitement.

The
pump clicked as it stopped and Samantha put the gas cover back on. She’d
forgotten her bottle of water for yoga class, so she ran inside the gas station
to get one. She didn’t want to be late for class and not get a decent spot, so
she trotted inside and grabbed the first bottle she saw from the cooler. She
took it to the counter and paid. As she turned to leave, she ran right into
someone else approaching the counter and dropped her water on the floor.

“I’m
sorry!” She bent down to get her water as the person she ran into did too.

“Hello
Samantha.” A deep voice filled her ears as the stranger handed her the water.
Her heart started pounding. Could it be? She looked up quickly. It was Lance!

“Hey
Lance. What’re you doing here?” She asked nervously. She was surprised to see
her old boyfriend at this gas station, let alone in town. He was a successful
rock star now and she knew he lived in LA. She tried to casually look him over.
He’d filled out some since they’d been together. His shaggy blonde hair was cut
shorter now and he looked older, more mature. She had to admit he looked good.
Time had been very kind to him.

“I
had some business to take care of here for Mom,” he replied.

She
smiled. Always such a mama’s boy. “How is she?” Samantha had always liked his
mom. She’d always told Lance to treat her better and that the two of them were
going to get married some day. Boy did she get that wrong!

“She’s
good. How are you?” He looked down at her with those piercing gray eyes. For a
second she wanted to wrap her arms around him like old times. She’d never
forgotten what his hugs had been like.

“I’m
good. Busy writing. My first novel comes out in about a month.” She looked down
at her shoes nervously, shaking the thought of his arms around her from her
mind.

“That’s
great, Sam,” he said with a smile. “I know how much you always loved to write.
Congrats.”

She
wasn’t sure why his words of approval made her feel so good. She glanced at her
phone. She was going to be late for class if she didn’t leave soon. “I actually
was headed to yoga class so I should probably get going.” She looked back up at
him. “It was good seeing you,” she said softly.

He
smiled at her, the corners of his eyes crinkling in the way she’d always loved.
“It was really good seeing you too. Take care.”

She
clutched her phone and water and headed out of the gas station, her heart
pounding hard in her ears. Samantha took a shaky breath as she got into her
car. Trying to get her bearings, she sat for a minute before starting it. She
couldn’t believe she saw Lance after all of these years. She didn’t think she’d
ever see him again here in town.

Samantha
started her car and headed off to class. She was looking forward to yoga. Maybe
it would clear the mess in her brain that seeing Lance had created.

HOME
SWEET HOME

Later
that night, Samantha was in the bathroom getting ready for bed while Lance was
performing his nightly ritual of checking on Emma before coming to bed. She was
going to miss these little routines their family had.

She
glanced at herself in the mirror. She’d managed to slip on the sheer, lacy
black teddy Lance had bought her in Vegas when they got married. He had a thing
for lingerie despite the fact he couldn’t keep it on her for longer than a few
minutes. Tonight would probably be no exception.

She
turned off the bathroom light and climbed onto their king size bed to wait for
him. They had designed their bedroom to be a sanctuary, a place to relax after
long months on the road or in LA while he was recording. There was a fireplace
and a small sitting area and Lance had to have a big screen TV. There were
times when they would get home from LA and they’d spend days in this room. She
loved it, but it would be empty without Lance.

“Must’ve
worn her out at the park today; she’s out cold,” Lance said as he walked into
the room. He shut the door behind him and his eyes widened when he saw her.
“Holy shit, Sam. What are you trying to do to me?”

A
shiver went down her spine; the teddy had its desired effect. Lust and desire
were written all over Lance’s face. “Oh nothing, just getting ready for bed,”
she stated nonchalantly.

“What-the-fuck-ever,
woman,” he mumbled, pulling his t-shirt over his head and tossing it across the
room. He undid his belt and had his jeans and boxers off in record time. He
hopped onto the bed by her and pulled her under him. His erection was hard
against her thigh. That didn’t take long.

“You
know I love that thing on you,” he growled into her ear. “And I’ve been
semi-hard since earlier this afternoon. I’m not going to play around right now,
Sam. I need to be inside you.”

His
words sent a spark of desire straight to her womb. She reached up and cupped
his face in her hands, looking deep into his blue eyes. “Then take me, Lance.
Make love to me,” she whispered. She didn’t need foreplay tonight either; she
needed to feel him inside her. She needed to be close to him tonight.

He
made a sound deep in his throat and kept his eyes on hers as he thrust inside
her. She moaned softly and arched beneath him, savoring the feel of him filling
her. She wrapped her legs around him and ran her nails down his back.

They
made love the rest of the night, dozing on and off in between sessions. They
touched and kissed each other all over, sometimes taking their time, sometimes
with a sense of urgency.

Scarlett lives in the Midwest with her family. When she’s not busy writing steamy stories, she can be found with her nose in a book, camping, or geocaching with her family. She loves Diet Coke, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, and 80’s hair bands.
