About the Book:
An ingeniously witty novel about the risks – and rewards – of opening your life to new people by Amazon Charts bestselling author Camille Pagán.
No new people: that’s Annie Mercer’s vow. It’s bad enough that her boss sabotaged her chemistry career and her best friend tried to cure her with crystals. But after her fiancé, Jon, asks for space while he’s gallivanting around Paris, Annie decides she needs space too – from everyone.
Yet when Harper moves in next door, Annie can’t help but train a watchful eye on the glamorous but fragile young woman. And if keeping Harper safe requires teaming up with Mo, a maddeningly optimistic amateur detective, who is she to mind her own business?
Soon Annie has let not one but two new people into her life. Then Jon reappears – and he wants her to join him in France. She’s pretty sure letting anyone get close won’t end well. So she must decide: Is another shot at happiness worth the risk?

My Review:
What a delight! And the narration by Amy McFadden was PERFECT!
This was my first book by Camille Pagan and I found it to be utterly engaging and captivating. I don’t often rate romantic comedies so highly but give me a geeky, smart heroine and I’m on board.
Annie is scientist and far more interested in her work than in forming friendships or for that matter, her own upcoming wedding.
This book is told in the form of journal entries and emails. I cannot recommend the audiobook highly enough because Amy McFadden literally WAS Annie Mercer to me! I don’t remember the last time I laughed out loud while listening to an audiobook, so kudos to the author for her incredibly snappy dialogue!
Annie has been forced out of her job at a chemical company due to sexual harassment by her boss. Instead of fighting back, she starts a cleaning business but is determined not to befriend anyone new, or form any kind of human connection for that matter. She is barely civil to her own small group of friends.
Her fiancee Jon has recently decided to take time for himself, and travel to Paris without Annie. She is deeply hurt by this, but determined to give Jon space. When she meets her new neighbor Harper and a private investigator hired to look into Harper, Annie’s life changes forever.
Camille Pagan has a gift for witty dialogue and the story was fresh and engaging. If you need something light and funny and sweetly romantic, then you will love this book! The cast of characters was truly endearing. Aside from the slightly unrealistic conclusion to Annie’s claim against her company, I adored this book and highly recommend it!!
