Welcome to the dual review of the Transcend Duet by Jewel E. Ann! Both books are now LIVE and free in Kindle Unlimited.
SYNOPSIS:
“In another life, she was my forever.”
An unexpected tragedy leaves Professor Nathaniel Hunt a widower alone with a newborn baby.
He hires a nanny. She’s young, but well-qualified, with a simple life, a crazy name obsession, and a boyfriend she met at the grocery store.
Over time, he discovers she knows things about him—things that happened before she was born—like a hidden scar on his head, his favorite pizza, and how he cheated on a high school Spanish test.
She speaks familiar words and shares haunting memories that take him back to over two decades earlier when he lost his best friend in a tragic accident.
“I’m afraid of what’s going to happen when you realize I’m not her.”
Transcend is a sexy, mind-bending journey that uncovers possibilities, challenges beliefs, and begets the age-old question: is there life after death?
MY REVIEW:
“The people in our lives give color to our existence. When we love, we choose to let part of our heart—part of our soul—live inside of another person. Their happiness is our happiness. Their grief is our grief. And when they die … part of us dies too.”
Jewel E. Ann is one of THE most imaginative romance authors writing today. I had no idea what to expect with this duet, so I didn’t really pay attention to the description and read very few reviews. SO this is a spoiler-free review for your enjoyment!!
This is NOT a paranormal book but it does touch on the spiritual in a lovely, sweet, sexy and very believable way. Swayze is a young woman, in love with her Grocery Store Guy but haunted by vivid memories of a woman and a man she has never met before.
“What if it’s a brain tumor? I think about this more than I should. However, it might explain a lot of the unique, brilliant, advanced, inconsistent, often times meaningless thoughts that go through my head. “Nate Hunt,” I chant his name, pulling out of the parking lot, heading back to my apartment. It’s déjà vu in overdrive. Vivid thoughts and memories reside in my head, clear and detailed. Dreams leave gaps and push past the realm of reality. These aren’t recollections of dreams. I know Nate Hunt.”
As fate would have it, Swayze gets a job working as a nanny for the recently widowed Nate. She adores his infant and eventually, he begins to understand and yes, BELIEVE, that Swayze knew him, in another time. How else to explain the precise memories she has of his youth? And of his best friend and first love?
“Jesus, Nate. What’s happened to you?” Standing, I stare at my hand. The second I pressed it to his chest, it remembered the feel of his heartbeat. My fucking hand remembers a heartbeat. How is that possible? And why can’t he remember me?
Fear not, this is not a love triangle per se. Swayze is in love with her boyfriend Griffin and she is confused by what is happening with Nate. He is her employer but yet she feels so close to him. They love each other, in a way that is not easily explained.
Jewel E. Ann has a way with words that make you laugh, cry and connect with her characters. I fell in love with Swayze, Nate and Griffin and simply could not put this book down. What would happen with Swayze’s vivd memories? Would they drive a wedge between her and Griffin? This book ends on a huge cliffhanger, but not to worry, you can read the next book immediately! This duet is one of my favorite reads this year.
“I was her now. She was my always. And I thought that would add up to forever.”
Synopsis:
ome lives end unfinished, and some transcend time.
After a horrific incident, Swayze finds herself trapped between two lives. Patchy memories and fear for her own safety thrust her into a gut-wrenching journey to uncover the truth.
Will she let her dreams slip away to seek retribution and find the missing pieces to a puzzle that existed a lifetime ago?
“I’m not going to watch you self-destruct. I’m not going to watch you fall in love with another man.”
Or will she discover the only truth that matters?
Epoch pushes the boundaries of what we believe and what we know. It redefines fate and proves that the only thing separating the heart and the soul is an infinite timeline.
“I think a part of you will be mine to love in every life.”
MY REVIEW:
4.5 Epic Stars!!!
“Not all truths can be explained.”
What a thrilling and original story. This book took a bit of a suspenseful turn which I did not see coming!! I adored this book and highly recommend this duet. Jewel E. Ann never fails to thrill and entertain and amaze me.
“All I wanted was to scoop you up in my arms and take you with me. I wanted to chase darkness where we could hide beneath the shadows of a million sunsets. If you could transcend time, why couldn’t we stop it?”
Swayze has become more and more entangled in her memories. But are they from a past life? Are they her memories? All is resolved in this second book in this amazing duet. Swayze has fallen more in love with baby Morgan and loves Nate, too, but is completely torn by her love and devotion to her boyfriend Griffin. I could not wait to see how the author would resolve all the emotions running through this book.
“I don’t like how the thoughts in my head wedge their way between us. It scares me. The grim reaper disguised as little memories, crooking his finger at me, beckoning me to surrender. What if the day comes where I can’t separate who I know I am from the impostor’s voice in my head?”
I LOVE a little angst mixed with my romance and this book delivers it all. My heart broke for Nate, Swayze and Griffin and I honestly had no idea where this story was going to go. The ending was PERFECT and the path to get there was equally satisfying. Swayze was being torn in two and had no clue how to resolve her conflicting emotions.
“Why are the words stuck inside? Griffin is the man I love. My friend. My lover. My future husband. Yet, I can’t find the right way to explain the emotional connection I have to Nate and Morgan. To a past I can’t fully remember.”
This easily could have been one giant whopper of a book but the author chose to make it a duet and honestly, I can’t recommend these books highly enough!! Sexy, funny, romantic, suspenseful and thoughtful, this duet has it all. My heart was beating out of my chest at the end and the tears were flowing freely. The author has a fresh and unusual writing style that I love. Don’t miss this story!!
“I think a part of you will be mine to love in every life.”
