Today we are thrilled to welcome best-selling author Erin McCarthy as she celebrates the release of new book, SWEET.
Synopsis:
A New Adult novel from Erin McCarthy, the USA Today bestselling author of True.
Jessica Sweet thought going away to college would finally make her free of her parents’ constant judgments and insistence she play chastity club role model for their church events, but if anything, the freedom has made her realize she can’t go home and be a hypocrite anymore. Tired of dodging their questions, she stays at school over the summer and lands in an unexpected crash pad: Riley Mann’s house.
Sarcastic, cocky, and full of opinions, Riley is also sexy personified with tattoos and biceps earned from working as a roofer all day. Not the right guy for her even if Jessica was looking for a relationship, which she is definitely not. But Jessica knows that Riley hides the burden of having to raise his younger brothers behind that grin and as she helps him get his house in order for a custody hearing, they begin to fall hard for each other, and she is forced to question what she’s hiding herself.
Jessica has never had a problem getting naked with a guy, but when it comes to showing Riley how she truly feels inside, her fear of rejection may just ruin the best thing—the best guy—to ever happen to her…
Interview with the Author:
What inspired you to write your first book?
I wrote my first book at six and I think it was because already then, I was a firmly established control freak. Why accept reality when I could make up my own version of the truth? ;)
You have written over 40 books but do you have a favorite genre?
I only write sub genres I enjoy and I don’t have a particular favorite. My favorite is always what I’m currently working on, with only a few exceptions of books I wanted to chuck out the window while writing them. How did you come up with the title SWEET?
It’s Jessica’s last name, so that was a no-brainer for my editor.
What or who inspired the characters of Jessica and Riley?
No one inspired the characters. I never base characters off real people. They just…appear. They fit into the periphery of TRUE and from there, they grew and evolved for me.Are any of the experiences in SWEET based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
No, not on real people or actual events. But we’re all influenced by our own experiences. I’ve certainly known alcoholics and drug users and seen dysfunctional families at work. I’ve lived in the city and the suburbs, I’ve lived in a lower income neighborhood and a middle class neighborhood, so all of those things give me a frame of reference, but I always write from my own imagination. What book are you reading now?
I just finished Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill, Stephen King’s son. I love horror novels.
Do you listen to music when you write?
Yes, I always listen to music.Vanilla or chocolate?
Vanilla. I’m actually allergic to chocolate.Beach or mountains?
Beach. Mountains make me feel claustrophobic.Favorite word?
That is unprintable, I’m sure. LOL.
I can tell you I despise the word slacks. It’s so… slithery.
Thanks so much, Erin!
