April Emerson’s earlier book The Righteous and the Wicked is one of the most under-rated books of the year so I jumped at the chance to read her new release. Out of the Dark is a moody, dreamy, very sexy story about following your heart and living life to the fullest.
Carina is newly-graduated from culinary school and travels to Italy as a graduation gift from her parents. She meets Stefan, a gorgeous, sexy businessman and falls madly in lust. Yes, there is a little insta-love here but it works perfectly in the story as Stefan is a very powerful and commanding man who holds many in his thrall.
Carina agrees to stay at Stefan’s vineyard and what began as a brief trip turns into a long stay, with her whole life changing. But things are not as they seem and her perfect world begins to crumble bit by but with the arrival of Stefan’s nephew Enzo at the vineyard.
Will Carina follow her heart or will she be trapped in a life that is slowly beginning to suffocate her? April Emerson has a lush, dreamy writing style and she created a beautiful world about winemaking in both Italy and in New York. This is an escapist story for sure but if you like a little thriller mixed in with your erotic romance, then this is the book for you. Despite a few minor plot weaknesses, I loved this story and fell in love with both Enzo and Stefano!
April Emerson moved to New York City after graduating from college with a degree in literature. As a nature lover, living in the city was a culture shock, but she soon began to enjoy being surrounded by so much energy. Submerged in perpetual crowds, April developed a fondness for people watching, which inspired her to start writing. Drawn to both the light and dark of humanity, she strives to tell sexy and romantic stories with exquisitely complex characters. When she isn’t writing, she loves listening to music or reading a good book while enjoying a glass of wine.
